Lots of upcoming birthdays on my flist over the next two days. Happy early birthday to paddies, eyesemerald, rickey_a, and mcstories (tomorrow) and gryffindorj, mclachlan, isabel_adler, and absynthedrinker (the 18th)!

Wow, it's been a while since I posted recs. Here's a little assortment for you.

STAR TREK FIC
For You I Came This Far by circ_bamboo (Pike/Winona Kirk, NC-17, references to torture and PTSD)
Whether you're into this pairing or not (I'm indifferent), I dare you not to get sucked into this fic. The author always does a lovely job of writing ensemble friendships among grown-up, engaging characters, and she's done the same here. Winona in particular is a fantastic character, and I enjoyed her complicated and believable relationship with Jim. And this fic made me look at Pike's "I dare you to do better" line in a totally different way.

Jim Kirk is an Earworm (Or, How Leonard McCoy Got His Groove Back) by savoytruffle (Kirk/McCoy, PG-13)
I laughed and laughed at this. Leonard McCoy listening to self-help tapes to try to get back on the horse with relationships is just a brilliant premise. And as usual with this author, the dialogue just sparkles.

HARRY POTTER FIC
Business Proposition by celandineb (Harry/George, G)
Lovely little pre-relationship Harry and George, written for my prompt of "decision."

Best Laid Plans by celandineb (Percy/Harry, G)
D'aww. I can't say much about this without spoiling it, but it's sweet.

HARRY POTTER ART
The Language of Birds by Anonymous (Marcus/Ginny, NC-17)
Fun concept, and a gorgeous and ambitious piece of art.

Vexation by Anonymous (Hermione/Pansy, PG-13)
Emotionally intense and beautifully drawn.

Dripping by kath_ballantyne (Remus, NC-17)
I can't seem to stop staring at this one. I like that I can't quite tell whether Remus is ecstatic, anguished or a bit of both.

WHITE COLLAR FIC
Somewhere Out of Time by sholio (Peter/Elizabeth, Neal/Sara, experimental Peter/Elizabeth/Neal/Sara, R)
So the basic premise of this is that these four characters go on a couples retreat for a weekend, and end up trying out a foursome. I feel like this is a bit of a tough premise to sell while still keeping everyone in character (particularly Peter, with Neal still in the anklet). And yet the author manages it. I loved the physical and emotional awkwardness throughout the story -- it's not a slick PWP. It felt real.

Places for People Like Us by sholio (Neal, Peter, Elizabeth, PG)
Same author but totally different type of fic here. This is gen fic about Neal returning to the Burkes' home to face Elizabeth after her kidnapping. *hugs Neal, and the other characters too*

SHERLOCK FIC
your presence will dominate my memory by mardia (John/Greg, Sherlock, PG-13)
This is pretty much guaranteed not to happen in canon when S3 finally starts up, but I liked this bittersweet look at what might happen if John doesn't forgive Sherlock for the events of 2x03. John and Greg's love just shines here.

ORIGINAL FIC
La muerte y el jardín by jibrailis (M/M, R)
This is set in 1970's Argentina, at a time when a military junta ruled the government. The two main characters meet by chance in prison and are drawn together in a way they don't expect. I enjoyed the way the author evoked this setting and time period, and the use of magical realism. The accompanying art by beili is gorgeous too.

Are You Now or Have You Ever Been by ladysisyphus (M/M, NC-17)
This is another historical piece, set in 1950's America, when people who were suspected to be Communists were under a dark cloud of suspicion. I loved both the main characters -- the lonely disabled man working for the government and the "subversive" man he's tasked with investigating. This one also has some great art, done by quaedam.

If you enjoy something, leave a little love for the author or artist!
