Happy Sunday

May 03, 2009 16:14

I always find rainy/cloudy days very depressing when I'm at work -- bad enough to be stuck in an office when you have a nice view out the window -- but on days like today, when I'm sitting on the couch with the sliding door open, listening to the rain fall on new green leaves, I find it quite soothing. Hope you're all having a lovely Sunday as well. ♥

Our latest discussion at classicshorts is up; this time we're talking about Borges' The House of Asterion. The story is very short, so do feel free to give it a read and come join us. :-)

Quick comment about Dreamwidth: I don't have an account there, nor do I particularly want one. Not because it doesn't look like a great service, but because I'm generally happy where I am. At some point I'm sure I'll have to get a DW account because people or comms I care about will move there exclusively, but until then I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing, which is posting/reading here and crossposting/reading at IJ.

Have some recs!

HP Fic
Just the Words by atdelphi (Kingsley/Alastor Moody, R/NC-17)
This is an old fic (from 2004) that I happened upon the other day and really enjoyed. It takes place after GoF (which, you'll recall, poor Moody spent in a trunk), and so there's a very subtle hurt/comfort thing going on. But I think it's mostly about intimacy, and about the things Kingsley and Moody do and don't say to each other. It's a beautiful, subtle fic -- highly recommended even if you're not particularly into the pairing.

Shrieking Shack, the Morning After by glass_icarus (Remus/Sirius, G-ish)
This is a lovely little ficlet that glass_icarus wrote for my prompt "the morning after." Sirius taking care of Remus during and after the moon always makes me feel warm and fuzzy, especially when it's written this sweetly. ♥

The Scandalous Tale of the Diagon Nursery Calendar by Anonymous (Hermione/Pansy, R)
I have to admit I groaned a bit when I saw this come up in my reading list for Thursday's quibbler_report -- nearly 14,000 words about a ship I'm not at all interested in. But I found this unexpectedly charming. The basic plot is that Hermione, Ginny and some other folks decide to make a nude calendar to raise money for the local nursery. My favorite part was the way the women, particularly Hermione, grew more comfortable with their own bodies during the photo shoot. Also, there was some nice UST going on between Hermione and Pansy. :-D A light, fun read.

HP Art
Frolic by ani_bester (Marauders, G)
This is an exquisite gen piece done in watercolors. I love the way the artist uses space here -- these four small boys in this big landscape, the sense of freedom and peace, the soft colors. So well done.

Secret Heritage by stellamoon (Harry/Draco, PG-13, AU)
It's hard to decide whether I like the third or last panel of this best -- the third, for the delicious male bodies, or the last, for the utter joy on the faces of both Harry and Draco. Either way, the artist is stunningly talented.

Newsies Fic
Legends by harmonyangel (Jack/David, PG-13)
A look at Jack and David's relationship through the years, as it plays out against the evolving political landscape of gay rights. Thoughtful and moving.
