14 Valentines, Day 14

Feb 14, 2009 17:49

Today's topic at 14valentines is international.

My post for today is sort of tangentially related to that topic, but it's more like a part two of yesterday's topic (arts and entertainment). This is a pic spam of art by women and women in art.

Also, thank you for this wonderful post and for the entire 14 Valentines series.

I enjoyed every single one and they reminded me of the many ways and reasons why women are so wonderful.

Aw, thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed following along. It was a fun project -- a lot of work, but rewarding.

Oh yay, I was hoping you'd post a few of your favorites. The first one looks familiar -- what museum is that from? *googles* Oh, is it at the Uffizi? I think I've seen it! Very powerful.

And wow, I especially love that last one. There's something haunting about it.

There are two versions, quite similar, one at the Uffizi and one at Capodimonte, Naples. This is the Capodimonte version.

The one by Dolron is a photograph, staged and lit like a Vermeer (Dolron is Dutch). She's one of my favourite photographers.

Wow, I would have had no idea that was a photo! *squints at it* Is that a real woman or a mannequin?

Ooooh, I love that Cuba series. That is great stuff! (I could barely look at some of the Exaltation ones though, OUCH. *g*) Thank you for the links.
