dear LJ peeps

Jun 15, 2010 01:15

i'm going to continue cross-posting to LJ from Dreamwidth, but from now on will be turning comments off. it's making me fussy, to have them in two places and all. fear not, though! you'll still be able to comment on DW, and subscribe to replies, and all that joy, thanks to the AWESOME POWER of OpenID.

Now, that said! I realized from chatting with 3ricj   that the DW openid login process is a bit of a pain. The little "log in with openID" option is not highlighted, and if you log in for the first time you don't get redirected properly back to the original url you came to see! I am told that a patch is in the works to fix this issue, but for now, here's how to comment on DW, for LJ or other OpenID users:

step 1: in a new browser window/tab, go to http://www.dreamwidth.org/openid/ and log in with any openID url.
step 2: click on the comment link in the footer of the crossposted DW entry on LJ. You will now be able to comment with your already-logged-in OpenID. And you shouldn't have to do this again for a long time, yay!  In case you do, I will edit a link to this entry into my LJ profile, for your reference.

(where step 2 can fail: if I haven't added you to my access list on DW. let me know if you get an "access denied" error and I will, posthaste.)

I'm posting this to DW as well as I figure someone may find it useful.  feel free to comment there to test the OpenID goodness!  I'll also leave comments open here JUST THIS ONE LAST TIME for troubleshooting :)

Oh and how could I forget!  If you want to move to DW or just use it more, I have invites.  Leave your email to get one.  ONE OF US, ONE OF US.
