"We speaking in code now? Eh- if it were me, I doubt I'd admit what had happened either. The only reason the rumor mill isn't giving Zero a hard time is due to the 'Armor Decorating' incident. No one wants to face his retaliation.
"...Alia, when you get this message, I have a report for you about X- he's currently near a tracker and with Zanzibar. He's in the Nexus, so he's reasonably safe. Other than that... I need to tell you in person. I've also accounted for the whereabouts of Douglas. He's fine, but he's... indisposed at the moment." She managed to keep from snickering. "Pallette out."
Luckily he wouldn't have to wonder long. Pallette turned and entered a set of double doors, wating in the sensor range so Douglas could also get through. Thus they were in the commissary.
"Don't worry about it- she doesn't need to hear about you until people start bringing projects your guys can't handle. You have vacation time, right?" Pallette looked down curiously as she led the way past gawking Hunters and stepped up to the line. She stooped down to pick Douglas up in one arm as she took a trey.
"She has to know what happened to X regardless. She'll have a better chance of gaining his trust and looking after him. I doubt she'll mind," Pallette said wryly.
"Okay, what do you want? Veggies? Meat? Something to drink?"
Axl, in the meantime, had also wandered into the commissary and stepped into the line behind them. He was still LOLed human -- and still dealing with an outbreak of hives he'd apparently gotten from kitty-Zero.
As he tried to scratch his arm as unobtrusively as possible, he noticed Pallette. "Hey Pallette..." And then he stopped, noticing Douglas. "What's up with the dog?"
Douglas made a disgruntled noise at the mention of his guys not being able to handle a job. They work with him, so they have to be able to handle anything. And he couldn't really argue about the Alia being able to get X, or at least keep an eye on him.
Once picked up Douglas tried to indicate he'd like meat and then Axl asked his question.
"Hey Axl," she smiled. Pallette took the plate of shishkabob and set it on her trey, then moved a little further down. She doubted Doug would want the vegetables, but he'd at least find the chunks of beef tasty.
"This is a Nexus refugee," she said, indicating Douglas. "LOLed. I offered him a place to stay until it wears off."
She got a bottle of water, anticipating that Douglas would probably want it sooner or later. "D'you have a bowl?" she asked the helpful 'roid behind the counter.
Pallette gives Douglas a thoughtful look. "The same LOL got you and Zero, right? What happened?"
They finally got to the end of the line, where the clerk noted her purchases, reached out to ruffle the pug's ears, and smiled.
Pallette grinned to herself. Let it be remembered- if you ever want attention in HQ, get loled into a small and cute animal. She waited for Axl and the answer to his question.
"Some kind of weird fog comes up, next thing you know, Zero's a cat and I'm squishy." Axl rolled his eyes as he finished up with the clerk. "And you know, I really don't get how humans put up with some of this shit."
Pallette led Axl to a table, put Douglas down in one chair and sat in another. Then she began pulling the chunks of meat off metal skewers and dropping them on a smaller plate, which she put in front of Douglas.
No reason to gnaw if he didn't have to.
"Knew I shouldn't take that bet," she grinned. Then she gave Axl a sympathetic look. She'd never wanted to experience life as a human. It was sort of disgusting. "I'm morbidly curious- what specific aspects?"
Axl gave her a humorless smile as he picked up his fork. "Guess who's allergic to cats~?" He dug into his food, pausing after a few bites to scratch his arm. "Sneezing and hives and -- seriously, how the hell do people put up with this? If I didn't know it should be wearing off eventually --" He shook his head. "This sucks."
"Arf," was the reply Pallette got from him as he followed her.

"Alia?" She tapped her comm. "Alia, do you copy?"

And the fact that he's having a hard time telling if they're anywhere near the commisary doesn't help.
