Here we go again ...

This time it's Japan that want to have a go at Microsoft.  Last  month the European Commission finished drafting it's response to another case brought against Microsoft.  And what are these cases about?  Essentially, other less-successful companies think it's OK to sue Microsoft for being better than them.

Currently, they seem to be complaining about Microsoft bundling Windows Media Player in with its operating system.  Don't these companies realize that people who want a different Media Player go and get one.  In most cases, the punter who wants a different media player gets the free version of whatever other player they want.  It's a rare occurrence that someone actually pays for the all-singing-all-dancing versions of these products.

Real Media are gunning for Microsoft at the moment.  All I can imagine anyone wanting Real Player for is to be able to listen to or watch their own proprietary format files.  There are hundreds of different media file formats in use today and many of them are proprietary to one company or another.   If people want to listen to them then they get the player that plays them.  And if they like that player more than the one they were using before then they keep on using that one for all their regular needs (unless that player doesn't play their other files, of course).

I use Windows every day.  I have Microsoft qualifications.  I choose to use WinAmp to play my media files.  I've tried lots of players in my search for one that I'm happy with.  Nothing I've found does everything I want so I use what suits my needs the most.  Yes, Windows Media Player is installed on my computer but no, I don't use it.  Real's player is most certainly not installed on my computer as the installation process includes many unnecessary files.

Grrr, why do we immediately jump to the conclusion that if someone is more successful than us that they must be cheating in some way?
