Last week we went to Brisbane for a few days to see Mal's sister get married.
It was a beautiful event, the weather was nice and warm (not stupid freezing like it is in Perth) and I got some nice chances to put my feet up and relax, which I don't often get to do at home. The bride was radiant, and she married the most awesome guy ever. Her dress was AMAZING, and the whole thing had a fantastic vibe. Considering the last wedding I attended was my own, it was great this time to just be able to be a guest and be fed and watered and just enjoy the moment.

It was also really nice to be able to be on a holiday with my brother and sister-in-law, even if it was only for a few days. My sis-in-law is my best mate from high school, so that makes it doubly awesome of course. We all stayed in the same hotel and made sure we made time to have a good catch-up in between all the psycho-ness of a family wedding. The hotel we stayed at was smack bang in the middle of the CBD which was great, usually when we're over there we're staying with Mal's parents in the 'burbs, so it really felt like a "proper" holiday this time.
I'm now 22 weeks up the duff now, well over half way.
It's been an interesting experience, some days it's all doom and gloom and spew and other days it's really joyous.
I can feel my little alien punching and kicking me every day.
My big-ass belly.
Although this dress makes it look
even more big-ass than usual.
We have about 3 months to try and get the house renovations done that we want to before the baby arrives, and then another 2 months or so after that to actually finish the nursery, because it'll be sleeping in our room for the first 2-3 months. We need to get the back gate done, the front fence, the floorboards in the nursery and hallway sanded and treated (we actually have to go stay in a hotel for a few days whilst this happens so this will be the most disruptive part), the bedroom and lounge re-carpeted, and then finally the nursery painted. We're stripping off the old wallpaper in there this weekend and starting to sand, then we have to paint the whole room in a primer grey because the tenants who were in here when it was being rented took it upon themselves to paint the entire room a really dark purple. One wall was wallpaper which they just painted over the top of (simple to strip off) but the other three need to be primed so we can eventually paint it a lighter shade. As much as I quite like "the goth room" as we call it, it's way too dark and forboding for a baby.
Oh we found out what we're having too. But we're not giving that away just yet. We've told family and close friends, but not really going to "announce" it on social media. We are very excited though, and have a name all picked out and everything. Regardless of whether it turned out to be a boy or girl I was always planning on dressing it in fairly unisex stuff anyways, I hate really gender typed clothing (blue stuff for boys and pink for girls - yuk!), The nursery will be purple and I'm going to try not to have too much gender typed stuff in general.
I have, however, been going a bit insane buying Rolling Stones and Star Trek related onesies.
Case in point - both of these are now hanging in my nursery *hee hee*
Since my main geeky love is horror and I can't introduce them to that for a long while, it comes down to the other geeky loves in our life, Star Trek and the Stones. As well as car stuff, but we haven't bought too much of that kind of thing yet. He/She will have enough cars in their life to last them a million years!
So it's a busy couple of months ahead as we try and get the house ready whilst I get fatter and less able to do stuff. It's a stupidly exciting time though, I really can't believe it took us so long to do this!
Hope everyone out there in LJ land is doing fine. Hot me up in my comments and tell me what you've got planned for the next couple of months?
