I must be the most hard-headed, cockeyed optimist in the world, because I still have high hopes and great interest in seeing where RT will take this season.

I think I've gotten my optimism back, thankfully. This last round of spoilers really did me some good. I am still extremely skeptical that RT really understands character arc and underlying motivation issues. I tend to think he substitutes cleverness for that kind of deeper work, and I believe this is the main reason for the fan disaffection. People don't usually turn off their TV because of a short term pairing they don't like, but they do turn it off if the characters aren't as well delineated and emotionally engaging anymore.

Anyway, that's just to say I'm with you, but not entirely. I think the end of this season will be a lot of fun, and I'm not at all worried about Piz or Parker as more than temporary obstacles for our main couple. The show disappoints though it somehow still has its hooks in me, but I'm not worried about the love stuff.

Re. Season Four, it was something in the spec w/ spoilers thread on TWoP -- rowanceleste said this:

That, combined with the fact that RT told KV of EOnline that he's writing a season, not a series, finale, tells me that there's been informal discussion with the network. No promises, of course, but showrunners do usually get a sense of things to come. It's a pretty shocking thought, considering the dismal ratings, but the CW is tanking at 9pm almost every night and is losing shows after this season, to boot (7th Heaven and maybe Gilmore Girls). They can't rely on their development slate for too much. So in that light, it kind of makes sense.

If it does get a S4 pickup, I'd love it if L & V weren't together at the end of this season but instead had the strong UST and possibility hanging in the air.
