( I'm lj-cutting this because it has implicit spoilers for ep 12, an assumption of the outcome. By the way, this is not a psychological examination of Logan's relationship with Veronica, but rather a story and plot based one. If you're curious, I also mention all the other major characters and my take on their roles in the plot. )

Well, I think Duncan belongs in a different category. If you watch S1 closely, it's apparent when they decided to stop playing the star-crossed lover theme, and it would have to predate the audience reaction to Logan, given the big gap between writing scripts and air dates. Because Logan was made human in RotK, but if memory serves, Duncan stopped being the clear UST object right around then. Only an episode or two later, if at all. So it was pretty clearly a creative decision, not a reaction to the audience. Also, Teddy Dunn CAN'T ACT. I'm sure this was a factor. JD is phenomenal. I'm sure this continues to be a factor in keeping his role strong and meaningful.

As for Piz... well, I'm sure we'll all come to dislike him less. Or at least that'll be the writers' goal. And that's kind of okay with me. I don't love (or even really like) the idea of V/Piz, but we survived half a season of Duncan being schmoopy with Veronica in S2, so... whatever. Still, I can't imagine RT thinking that Piz is a viably strong alternative to Logan. He hasn't fleshed out the character, for one thing, and Logan was given depth quite early in S1. Also, RT does like shades of grey. Piz is very light. I can't see him viable for the long term. He's just never going to be interesting enough to carry the story.
