I have a bit of a dilemma. This paper that I'm working on is loads of fun. I basically get to research the way that I try and live and write about it. Green living, simplifying, the Slow movement. All great! All related! However, I was surfing this here internet and came across a site that made quick mention of the fact that "human gas sometimes contains CO2 and/or methane (both greenhouse gases) and the average adult passes gas 14-23 times per day." Also, vegetarians and vegans "tend to fart more than omnivores" because of their diet.
Now, the second part of that is not all surprising; I've noticed this among friends for years now. Taking that into account (all the great raw foods I eat), farting has become a pretty big part of my life. It even plays a big part in the lives of my omnivorous friends. So here's my question, what do we do? Our bodies, as a part of a natural process, are contributing to greenhouse gasses. Would taking anti-fart formulas be the right thing to do? Obviously, that would be the route to take to minimize our footprint on the earth, but what about the waste created to make those formulas? Which is more harmful? I know, at least, that they make them without animal products now.
It's all one more thing to worry about.
