I was going to share some mythology on the network at some point, but I was wondering if you all were more interested in hearing that or in hearing some of the mechanics of pokemon battles.

I really could go on about both, after all.

gracia, dolorosa, amane kuzuryu, death the kid

[ Oh, a human that looks like an adult; for a while there she was thinking they stayed small forever. More importantly, she HAS been wanting to learn more about humans and their culture(s). ]

Though I do not know what sort of mythology you refer to or what type of fighting you speak of, I am interested in learning anything at all about humans and their worlds.

[An adult indeed! And my goodness do you ever look like someone we know.]

Ah, my world is special. It has a group of animal species known collectively as Pokemon. They're creatures that evolved alongside us, and fight at our side.

Out of curiosity, do you know of a young lady known as Kanaya?

I am beginning to wonder whether our choices of individuals to talk to are nigh identical or if that child has simply become acquainted with everyone there is in this place; either would be quite surprising.

But, yes, I have become acquainted with Kanaya. That child is my descendant, hence the many similarities.

I think she's a very charming young girl. Certainly a descendant to be proud of.

[Grin grin.]

I explained with her, a while ago, about humans and our reproductive cycles, and how it affects the concepts and understanding of what romance is.

The more I learn of her, the more proud I become of her.

And, ah...that is a good thing to know, I suppose, and I am glad she heard it from someone that seems knowledgeable and mature; I will admit to being quite curious as to the entire matter and being just as--if not more so--ignorant of human...romance than she had been.

...I have asked a few of the other members of my species present for information, but I hope it is understandable that when a child is asked to explain such things to an adult that all involved can become quite uncomfortable and confused.

Oh, of course. I explained as much as she asked about, really. We exchanged information! I find the mere thought of an alien species that so parallels humans in appearance but in so few other ways truly fascinating.

Here, I'll direct you to my previous conversation with her.

[And with that she leaves a link to said intellectual conversation.]

Feel free to ask me anything, of course. I seem to be one of the few actual adults here willing to share this sort of information.

[ Oh.

Oh my goodness. ]

I believe the respect I have for my descendant has grown considerably after reading that particular exchange. I knew our species were quite distinct, but I never anticipated just how greatly. The information was presented very well so please do not take my dumbfounded response to be an indication that you did not explain well.

[ Same-sex relationships being notable? Being prejudiced against? Well, there is some paranoia to add to when interacting with humans.

A society that strives for knowledge and peace? A world that is actually what she had wanted her world to be like?

But at least one thing actually makes her happy rather than utterly dumbfounded. ]

...I have heard one human term recently from one of the Troll children here. I would like to verify that I understand its purpose and meaning. A female that has raised a child--even one not genetically connected--from childhood to adulthood would be called a 'mom' or a 'mother'.

Is this correct? Is this restricted to humans?

It's not restricted to humans; it's a very common reproductive system in our world, and is very normal for most if not all advanced life forms. Some species are simply genetic "mothers", as we would describe the female's contribution to the next generation, but the more emotional and metaphysical connotation of what a "mother" is usually refers to a female who spends the time to nurture their young. And the human concept of a "good" mother is one who also nurtures their child emotionally, assisting them in a stable emotional development.

[ From how wide her eyes seem and how bright her face becomes, one may think she just discovered some miraculous secret to the universe. ]

...I am a mother!

[Cynthia can't help a laugh, even if it's very good-natured.]

I take it you became an adoptive mother, then? If I recall correctly, the species is raised by creatures called Lusii. I'm guessing you were in a very special circumstance?

Yes, yes! A Troll raising another is an unheard of and unprecedented event; I truly believe I am the one and only to have ever done so. I have gone a very, very long time without a way to describe the relationship he and I had. It is one I had never seen another example of. To know it is a norm in another species is shocking. To think something he suffered for is so easily accepted for elsewhere is...

It may seem quite peculiar, but finally having a word to describe what we had is...it is tremendously relieving.

Then I'm very happy for you! It may be the norm because we're biologically equipped to function like that, but yes, the relationship you're describing is one we'd call "adoption", which is common in our world. Typically for couples that can't produce their own children, or want to give homes to children already alone instead of creating another.

I see, I see. I had wanted to learn about humans out of idle curiosity and never did I think I would learn something so greatly important about him and myself. I...I have so many more questions regarding so many other things you told my descendant, but for now I am well more than content.

Thank you.

You're very welcome. Feel free to ask me anything at any time.

By the way! My name is Cynthia. As you probably gathered from the conversation I had with Kanaya.

Oh, how rude of me not to introduce myself sooner. I...Well, you may call me Dolorosa. I am very glad to have made your acquaintance, Cynthia.
