Gazing in the middle of the battlefield, arrows flying pass her head and bodies slump under her horse’s hooves, she was unaffected by all the riot happening around her. She grazed the field under her sight, laying a careful look on every single face until she finally found her target. She ran her hands through her long, smooth, silky black hair kept under her helm and pulled a strand. She raised her bow and armed it with her hair, now as straight and stiff as an iron staff. She pulled on her bow.
“May death embrace your last warmth and envelop you in peace.”
And she released her finger’s hold.

She was the princess of the land up north, coming from a powerful background of the dynasty that had ruled for seven ages. The stories of her race’s birth are sung around the sky under whispered breath and bedtime lullabies. Her people was cursed with gifts unimaginable, blessed with torturous fates as they marked the beginning of the end.
It was said that during the last battle between the goddess Zea and his husband Regna who created life, she had asked her husband the reasons for him leaving her alone while he retreats to the highest mountains to create mankind for forty days, forgetting her and all her needs. Regna, however, took the question as a sign of defiance and cursed her, saying that she was a snake for fighting his own husband, his curse so strong it turned Zea into one.
But the goddess was powerful and also saddened, she lamented in her snake form how unfortunate she was, married to a man who never realizes her services and her devotion to him. All the years she held on being engaged to a hermit and a curse is all she received back. She prayed for another chance to serve her husband, even when she was in the shape of a snake.
Regna was maddened with that notion, stated that he was never married to a snake, and threw his divine spear Konta at her, sliced her open and her blood spilled everywhere. But the blood didn’t land as droplets, rather as small snakes that crawled to the god’s feet, bowing down in servitude. Only then did Regna realized how pure his wife was, still returning in form of snakes to be a loyal devout to him. He blessed the snakes with humanly form and thus, the Serpentineans was born.
She was the princess of the people that turns into snake when they got angry. Her kind was born in an egg, cracks it open as they got older, and finally shed all snake-like appearance when they reach the age of five, taking the appearance of perfectly anatomized human children. They would grow like a human does, aging and all, except for their lifespan that was slightly longer than normal humans by a century. The moment they are nearing death, they return to their snake form and they would die as a snake, just like their mother the Goddess had been.
Their blessings was that they are more sensitive than human beings, more keen on learning and more charming in ways of communication. Their curse was that they will turn into a snake when their emotion is unbalanced, lethal and dangerous. They kill anybody in sight and thus makes them better warriors. And she was the revered princess of these people.
She, Shim Changmin, was a princess of the Serpentineans.

“Princess, the Queen has asked for your grace on new year’s eve.”
The message had left her torn. Finally, she spoken her thoughts.
“Certainly. Assure her I shall be there by the last sundown of the year.”
As the skinny messenger bowed out of her camp, she returned her gazes back to the map laid in front of her. She lingered her eyes over three little red pyramid-shaped marker, indicating the enemy bases left for her to erase in three single days. In her mind various train of thoughts ran around and hits each other or bumps the walls. She finally exhaled and raised her hands. The two silent figure on the edge of the room moved closer to her.
“Prepare the silent battalion. We will move under the night to annihilate the base north from here. By sunrise we will stage the attack on the west base and leave the last city to me.”
“Understood, princess.” Said the taller shadow.
“Your word is our command.” The shorter shadow replied.
Changmin closed her eyes. It would drain all her remaining energy to continue thinking, and so she slipped into a slumber, still sitting rigid in her commander chair. Only after one of her loyal shadows opened her tent flap, she stood and stepped outside, ready to slaughter countless lives, all for the sake of her country’s peace.
She was the princess, and this is her battlefield.
Darkness was her ally. Duty is her horse.
She was the princess, and this is her story.

“Yunho, would you sit down already?”
The young prince looked at his brother, sitting at the table calmly while sipping his tea. It’s been three days since they had arrived at the palace as an envoy from the human kingdom of Grandana to the Serpentenea Queendom. As two of the most powerful kingdom of the land, an alliance was proposed by their king and he sent them, his two sons, to be the messenger of the goodwill.
So far they have been treated warmly, the Queen had welcomed them herself and showed them around her palace personally. They were invited to the New Year party that were reserved for the royal family and high personnels and now Yunho, the older of the two, has been pacing around their room, deep in thoughts.
“Why are you so bothered, anyway?” Yoochun, his younger brother was enjoying all the kindness from the reception. “Drop your guards, they have accepted our call of peace and we hold the word of the Queen herself.”
“That’s not what I’m bothered at.” Yunho quickly denied his brother.
“Then what’s your concern right now?”
“Is my clothes going to be sufficient? I didn’t bring my best garments here.” Yunho’s worries brought laughter to the face of his brother.
“Why don’t we look for materials here, for a souvenir back home? Might as well see how the locals do at their daily life.”
And in a moments notice, they were off, guided with a personal minister of the Queen to the market.

“My princess, the city is the only thing left now for us to conquer.”
Changmin looked over the hill, the fort of the west burning down under her eyes. The northern base of the enemy kingdom was taken aback by their night attack, and the western base was as weak as they had prepared for. The main city, however, would be another thing to consider.
“Good, let everybody camp. You two, accompany me to the city.”
And as she rode down the hill to the city, her two most trusted man right by her side, she pictured the sight of her mother, and gathered all the strength she would need to lay havoc on the final city of the enemy kingdom.
The war started as a simple invasion from the other country, yet the Queen had distates on long disputes and as such, she sent her daughter to eliminate the whole enemy kingdom as a show of force. And in less than three months, the large kingdom has now been shrunk into their last city, their capital has been taken three weeks ago, further proving the prowess of the princess in war.
And as she walked up to the walls of the last city, she fired an arrow bearing a message, her last warning to evacuate the citizen to safety before she staged her attack. The reply came back as rain of arrows from inside the city. The three of them quickly pulled themselves away to a safer distance from the city. Changmin gazed, rolling her final thoughts, before she sighed.
“So be it.” And she closed her eyes. She went off her horse and started taking her armors off.
“Princess, must it be this way?” The younger of her two men asked.
“Must you ask? How dare you question her judgments?” The older yelled.
“Silence. Don’t be so harsh on your brother.” Changmin calmly ordered the two down. She was in her last undergarments, barely a white silk shirt and long loose pants. She slowly walked to the direction of the city, five slow steps filled with power and confidence and then she stopped, her hands formed a mudra, holy hand sign, in front of her chest.
“This is the only time I’ll use my powers on this war, remember that.”
“Yes, princess.” The two men nodded, obeying their princess’ every words. They went off their horses, but stood silent from beside their steeds, watching the princess closely as she inhaled and closed her eyes, focusing her strengths and concentration on her lips as she incantates the words of spells.
When she opened her eyes, her emerald eyes gleamed furiously and her scales shone like sapphires.
And when she exhaled, her towering, slender, gleaming body over the city breathed fire and turned the whole city into fiery hell, trapping everyone inside. The ruby flames of her whispers was unable to be put out by water, screams and shouts of panic and fear rung through the dusk air. Satisfied with her work, she closed her eyes.
Her body fell so lithe it almost hit the ground, but her two guards were fast and they caught her before she graced the earth with her skin. She whispered a small “Thank you.” Before falling into tired slumber in the hands of her younger escort. The older picked up her armors and the two of them went back to their troops’ camp.
