I just flicked on KERRANG TV for their 20 Hottest Rock Chicks countdown. To my utmost horror there were some bands I hadn't heard of that deserved more of a listen. This of course got me thinking: are there any more bands I've missed out there that are ReallyRatherGoodTMSo reader, who should I be listening to? Who had grabbed your aural attention ( Read more... )

I trust Vicki Spit is somewhere on the Kerrang list...

In some of the shots you can see the band's breath on the air. I think they made that video in cold storage!

I am obviously not down with the kidz. I only recognise the singer out of No Doubt (who I thought had a whole new career as a MOR easy-listening balladeer now) and Avril Lasange, or whatever her name is, who looks like she's bunked off school.

I looked at Hey Monday. A band precision-groomed for rampant ordinariness, I think!

The amusing thing about SLT is how they've completely rewritten their history. I mean, it's not as if I particularly care, but their claim to have started out in 2002 and released their first EP in 2004 in somewhat ludicrous, given that Zion gave me a copy of their demo tape (which I still have around somewhere) at a Manowar gig at The Marquee in 1994, when he still had long blonde hair...

Oh, every band does this. Many bands' biogs are twice as creative as any of the music they make. It goes with the territory.

I just reviewed an album by The Last Cry (here, somewhere). Most other reviews of that album state that the band are quite new, based on the band's own assertion in their press release that they formed 'as they are now' in 2006. Unfortunately, I've been around the block a few times - and I know the band formed the best part of two decades ago. That phrase 'as they are now' covers a multitude of sins!

It's also interesting how the date London After Midnight formed seems to have become a moveable feast. The band currently claim they formed 'in the nineties' which is a wonderfully fuzzy phrase - ten years of leeway right there. Not bad going for a band that was making demo tapes in the 80s!
