So theres this Kimchi contest in the city this Saturday.
Having never made kimchi, I decided to enter the contest for shits and giggles.
Lets see if I can place in the top three!
Im doing a variation on what we traditionally think of as kimchi: rather than cabbage, Im doing it with cucumbers, radish, and sesame leaves.
I was so excited to go to the korean market today but when I got to the seasonings aisle, I was so lost!
So many types of pepper powder! I went with what I thought was correct (the names were all in korean)
Good thing I wrote down the hangul for the correct pepper! it was the right one =)
I cant wait to start making it. I wanna finish it tonight to give it two days to ferment. EEEE
*edit* at the market, there were all these korean grannies like, picking up napa cabbage and shit for kimchi. I wanted to ask them for advice, but my korean is limited to hello and thank you. haha.
also? they sell 5 pound BAGS of the pepper flakes..YIKES
