a friend of mine posted this on his blog, i figured i should share it with u guys
I got this in an email this morning. Not sure if this is true, but for all you speed demons like me.. it's a good caution regardless. Read:
(01/19/06) - Dallas and the state of Texas will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy. The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 1 million will go to pay state troopers and Dallas Police officers overtime. There will be 50 police officers and state troopers in the Metroplex on duty at all times patrolling the 10 main intersections and highways.
They are:
I-35E North & South
I-20 East & West
75 North & South
All of 635
114 East & West
183 East & West
175 North & South
Dallas Tollway North & South
George Bush Turnpike East & West
360 North & South
Now 5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every officer is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 minutes. They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and they are bringing all their part time employees onto full time duty. WBAP-820 AM confirmed all of this yesterday morning.
Also, I checked out Fox 4 (
http://www.kdfwfox4.com/) and read:
PLANO POLICE LOOKING FOR NEW RECRUITS
(PLANO, January 18) -- The Plano Police Department is starting an aggressive recruiting push to fill 23 police officer positions. The department's efforts will including trying to attract applicants from outside of Texas. Plano Police administrators believe the low cost of living and quality of life in Plano will be appealing to experienced cops from large cities on the coasts. Plano Police recruiters are also being more selective. As of 2006, the department now requires officers to have a Bachelors degree.
I can't confirm the speeding ticket email but when I watched the news this morning I learned the city of Dallas is more than $6.5 million dollars past due on their electric bill. The city only has a few days left to pay before Sempra Energy cuts off power to the city of Dallas. So I'm guessing the proposed $9 million in speeding ticket revenue will pay the electricity bill. Hahaha.. this should be interesting.
