Ok, so Thursday night I ditched studying for a test I had Monday at noon and working on my 5-7 page research paper. It was so worth it though. Me, along with Kim, Jeremy, and Rich went to see our first boxing match. The fight was headlined by Mike "No Joke" Stewart (from The Contender season 2) and his brother Richard Stewart. Both incredible fighters and unbelievably nice guys. I hadn't seen either one fight before, but I also hadn't seen Mike since last year at a friend's church event. The exhibition (or as Kim calls it "expedition") fight was good and so were the other bouts excluding the heavyweight one. That one was boring. The guys barely hit each other. Sorry, but I did not pay $35 a ticket to see two fat sweaty guys dance around. Of course Jeremy and Rich were happy to see the girls walk around the ring holding the round number for Rick and Mike's fights especially since both are sponsered by Hooters and the Hooters girls held the numbers and signs in their fights. Now if any of you actually watched the second season of The Contender, you know Mike won his fight with Ebo (ranked #4 in the world for welterweight) with a stunning ko, but lost to Grady Brewer in the second stage. Both fights he waited too long actually punch and hardly got in any punches against Grady. However, Mike proved last night he is a true contender against Roberto "El Viejo" Valenzuela. He exploded in every round, yet paced himself perfectly. I was shocked too when I was standing next to Aaron Torres who was knocked off The Contender 2 in week 3 by Gary Balletto! He was talking smack to Mike like, "Next time Mike...it's gonna be me and you and I ain't gonna be nice to you this time." This all said Mike comes over and gives me a big sweaty kiss and said it was good to see me and sorry he missed me at the church event last month. Then when his manager or coach told him about Torres, he laughed and said, "Aaron is full of hot air....but I'll knock it out of him." Don't know if they'll actually fight but if so, I gotta be there.
So from all this, I highly recommend going to see a boxing match. Especially if it's the Stewart brothers.
