I spent the day on my sister's boat along the Potomac. It was the most perfectly gorgeous day for it! Gillian got her first boat ride as well--she loved it. My brother-in-law is a speed demon and took it up to 50 mph. We were flying!!
We dropped anchor right along Mt. Vernon Estates and enjoyed our lunch with George Washington's house in view. (For once, I didn't have my camera with me, so these are not my pictures! I just felt the need to illustrate my story :) )
Later we took the boat down to see what the new "National Harbor" looked like from the water. It's sort of a town center centralized around the marina and the Gaylord Hotel and Conference center (with a big atrium...like the Grand Old Oprey, but smaller). I suppose it will be more fun soon, but it's still under a lot of construction.
You like this artist rendering? LOL. It doesn't look quite this nice yet.
We saw a lot of Blue Heron,
water skiers and got some sun. I'd forgotten how much fun being on a boat was. Our family sold our boat before Gilly was born. We never used it much because it didn't have a canvas shade over the top of the boat. It was mostly built for speeding around and tubing. Plus, back then, the Potomac wasn't quite as clean as it appears to be now -- sort of gross swimming alongside dead fish, eh? We didn't see any of that this time. My sister has a much bigger boat-- lots more room to move around and get some shade when you need it.
Now I'm sitting here with my heating pad on my left shoulder. My chiropractor is going to lecture me tomorrow when my shoulder is all tight again.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
