Happy 4th Birthday Rona

Rona-

My tiny treasure, my beautiful princess, my darling dove, my little bug. Today you are 4.
Last night you told me “tomorrow I am going to wake up, spit out my bink, put on my clothes and go to school because I will be FOUR” and this morning you asked me (after looking yourself over) “Mama how do you tell I am four”. You couldn’t see the difference, but trust me on this one; you have grown so much in the last year it is very clear that you are indeed four years old today.

Whenever I think about you getting bigger I think about Madeline saying “even though I’m small I’m big” and that is you in a nutshell. You may be little but you are fierce. You are fearless and loving and gentle and kind and bright and thoughtful and generous. I am so glad to know you.

We have done so many things this year. You started a new school and made wonderful new friends, you went back to Aberdeen (which you still consider you REAL home) for my graduation and cried that we couldn’t go into our home because “it misses us”, you started to learn to ride your trike, you have been going to swimming lessons and are magnificent at it, you are addicted to chapter books, you are giving your teachers a run for their money since you want to LEARN so much and they want you to be little still. I trust that you will prove us all right and that you will be amazing at whatever you decide to do.

You and I also went on a big adventure in the car this summer. We took Daddy with us and camped in Billings, then went to see Uncle Thom and Karen and Liam in Colorado, then we went to cousin Erin’s wedding in Price, UT, then you and I went by ourselves to Arizona to see Grandma Kathy and Papa Plumlee and came all the way home on our own. And you know what, we had a marvelous time. You didn’t complain about being in the car, you were a wonderful companion and I would go anywhere with you!

You can write your name now, and all of the other letters. You want to “spell” all of the time, which for you means telling us the letters in words and having us tell you what they are. You love to listen to the Magic Treehouse CD that you got in a Wendy’s kids meal, and you still LOVE Harry Potter. You want to listen to the Chamber of Secrets before bed every night.

We have had loss this year too, your Great-Grandpa Jim and your Great-Grandma Kobe both died. You were very concerned about Mama and Daddy and you cried too because you missed them, but it is a part of life and you are managing that bit of reality very well. We are very proud of you.

You have grown from a little girl into a big girl this year. It’s crazy. Sometimes your Dad and I get flashes of the teenage you when you say things like “you are making me insane” and “let’s go to the mall and look at clothes”. We are not in a hurry for that time. You make our house so joyful my heart wants to burst and I cannot wait for the next bits of adventuring!

I love you so!

Your own Mama

birthday, rona
