It was Saturday night, and like every Saturday night Chloe and Clark were hanging out. The difference was that earlier that day, Clark had called and told her he would take her to a different place. He told her to be ready at 9 o'clock.
Chloe was a little surprised about that, but couldn’t help the smile that touched her lips. In these last weeks, their relationship had taken a different direction; they were even flirting, and Chloe could not help but hope this time they could take the next step.

It was a little before 9 and she was waiting for Clark in her living room, flipping through TV channels.
"Ready?"
Chloe jumped. "Man, have you ever heard of announcing yourself? You've got a bad habit of scaring me half to death."
"I know, and it's so much fun," kidded Clark.
"Yeah, yeah, make fun of me."
"Chloe, you might want to put on a pair of jeans before we go."
"Why? What's wrong with shorts?”
"Just... trust me on this one."
"Okay, I'll go change."
"Put on some sneakers also," he yelled from the bottom of the stairs as she ascended.
After Chloe changed her clothes, she went back to the living room where Clark was waiting.
"Ready?" he asked.
" Yeah .You haven’t told me where we're going."
"I already told you it's a surprise."
Rolling her eyes, Chloe said, " I just don’t understand why so much mystery about this."
" hahahaha always so curious ... "
"This is me, and you love it," she said smiling up at him.
"Hold tight," said Clark, picking Chloe up. She tightened her arms around his neck and closed her eyes. Clark supersped and she felt the wind ruffling her hair.
When she opened her eyes, she was sure they weren’t in Kansas anymore.
“Where are we?” Chloe asked him.
“Palace of Versailles,” he answered with a smug smile.
Chloe’s eyes were wide “You bought me to France? Wow!”
“Have you ever been here before?” she was curious.
“A couple of times. I might like French history,” he said defensively.
Chloe laughed and stood on her tip toes to squeeze his cheek. “Awww, Clarkie likes castles and fairy tales,” she teased.
Clark blushed. "It’s a historical place, and I like cultural tours”
“Whatever,” she laughed. He was so adorable.
The day was warm and sunny, a perfect day for the end of August. They were next to the castle, reaching the iron gates when Chloe stopped.
"What are you doing?" asked Clark.
"Wow... I just can't believe that I'm going to set foot in such an historic place."
Clark sighed. "Well, you're not if you don't get past these gates. Come on," he said, grabbing her by her shirt sleeve and dragging her inside.
"I'm coming, I'm coming. Don't be so impatient!"
They went across the courtyard, and Clark headed toward the entrance.
"We've got to get tickets."
" ‘kay," answered Chloe, taking a place in line.
Their turn in line came. Clark refused to let Chloe pay for her admission.
"I can pay for my ticket," Chloe stubbornly said.
"Don't worry about it. Come on, are you ready for a visit into history?"
"Oh yeah!" said Chloe.
"Good, let's go."
They passed through the metal detector and started their visit.
"Metal detector? That's not very historic," joked Chloe.
Clark smiled. "Better safe than sorry. Okay, let's start with the right wing."
"You're the guide!"
They walked through a long large corridor with paintings depicting different royal families. Clark was walking very fast with his long legs and she couldn’t keep up with her tiny ones.
"Hey! Slow down, we're not racing."
"I know, but I want to beat this tour group ahead of us. Plus there isn't really anything interesting until the children's apartments."
"Okay, but don't lose me in the crowd," she said, picking up the pace. Clark laughed, she was so short that getting lost in the crowd was a real possibility.
Once they reached the tour group, Clark took hold of her hand. Chloe looked at him with a funny expression on her face.
"I don't want to lose you in the crowd," he explained as she pressed through the crowd.
“Are you calling me short?” she challenged, looking up at him with a frown.
“Well… You're not exactly tall.”
Chloe hated being called short, but he thought it only made her cute.
“We can’t all be giants” she scoffed.
“We can’t all be midgets, either.” That one earned him a pinch on the arm that would’ve hurt if he weren’t invulnerable.
Once past the group, he let go of Chloe's hand.
"Is that a habit of yours, holding people's hands through crowds?" asked Chloe jokingly. To her surprise, Clark blushed. I can't believe he's blushing, she thought. Did I manage to embarrass him? She decided to take advantage of the situation and continued to tease him.
"Maybe I just reserve this treatment for short people," he defended.
"Okay, okay... drop it," she laughed. "You're funny when you blush."
"Hey! I don't blush!"
"You do too," answered Chloe teasingly.
"Do not!"
"Do too."
Clark let out an impatient growl. "Fine... whatever. Are we going to visit this castle or not?"
Chloe smiled. "Lead the way."
"Hey! Wipe that smile off your face, missy!"
"I'm not smiling."
"Are too."
Suddenly he put his hand over her mouth. "Forget I even answered that."
Chloe tried to protest, but it only came out as incoherent mumbling beneath his fingers.
"Ha ha... what did I just say?” he joked. “Come on, let's call it a truce, and go."
Chloe's eyes were sparkling with amusement. She nodded.
"Okay." He took her hand off her mouth.
Chloe bit her lower lip to keep from laughing. Now, this is a side of Clark I love.
"Are you coming?” he asked, interrupting her thoughts. “The tourists are going to catch up with us."
"Yeah." She shook her head and followed him, her face warming with a smile. Yeah; she decided she loved France.
xxxxxxxxxx
The End.
