on new year's eve

Dec 31, 2007 10:54

Okay, so. Yesterday I went to Game Stop near my house and picked up Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. I've already finished two cases. Also, I was lucky that the label of the used game said it was $26.99, but the cashier gave me a discount and made it $17.99. :D I love this game.

Also, because I want to try to do these every year so I can go back and compare them someday, I present the End of Year Meme.

What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?

Become a peer mentor.

Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don’t make New Years’ resolutions for the most part.

Did anyone close to you give birth?

I don’t think so.

Did anyone close to you die?

Yes. One of my Japanese professors, Professor Hayashi, suddenly passed away this summer.

What countries did you visit?

Japan during the summer. I hadn’t been there in 8 years.

What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

Motivation and courage to push forward with what I want and need to do.

What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

March 7th, my first time being carried to the ER in an ambulance. August 18th, my first car accident.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I… really don’t know. Perhaps being a peer mentor, even though I think I could have done better?

What was your biggest failure?

Not procrastinating. Really, it’s getting to the point where I really need to think about this.

Did you suffer illness or injury?

Yes. My bike tires slipped and I broke my two front teeth.

What was the best thing you bought?

Manga? And probably Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney when I actually get through the game, lol.

Whose behavior merited celebration?

My mother, for being so patient with me through my accidents and so forth.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

I’m not sure. Maybe myself?

Where did most of your money go?

Manga, per usual, as well as school supplies. Yeesh.

What did you get really excited about?

Going to the Kanjani 8 Tokyo Dome concert and getting a Nintendo DS Lite.

What song will always remind you of 2007?

“Makenaide” by ZARD and “Lovin’ Life” by FUNKY MONKEY BABYS.

Compared to this time last year, are you:

Happier or sadder?

Happier? Now that I have Phoenix Wright, lol.

Thinner or fatter?

About the same.

Richer or poorer?

Poorer. Definitely poorer.

What do you wish you'd done more of?

Taken the initiative.

What do you wish you'd done less of?

Procrastinate and stress out about things that can’t be helped.

How will you be spending Christmas?

I spent it with my mother, Miyoko-san, and Henry-san having dinner and watching Japanese music shows.

Did you fall in love in 2007?

I really don’t know what “falling in love” is. But I have had some feelings I’ve had to put a lot of thought into.

How many one-night stands?

Uh, none.

What was your favorite TV program?

Heroes, Shin-Doumoto Kyoudai, Oishinsuke, SP.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Yes.

What was the best book you read?

God, I didn’t really get to read too many actual books. But Avalon High by Meg Cabot?

What was your greatest musical discovery?

FUNKY MONKEY BABYS and GReeeeN.

What did you want and get?

A Nintendo DS Lite and a new 4GB MP3 player (I’m still waiting for it to be shipped).

What did you want and not get?

Money.

What were your favorite films of this year?

Formula 17, Go Go Boys, Kimi ni Shika Kikoenai.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Went out to Rascal’s to eat and got some presents. I turned 20.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Not being involved in so many different accidents.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?

Comfortable and relaxed.

What kept you sane?

My friends and manga.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Kanjani 8.

What political issue stirred you the most?

Presidential elections and illegal immigration. They’re practically hand-in-hand by now.

Who did you miss?

Professor Hayashi. On a lighter note, my friends who now live on the other side of the dorm, boo.

Who was the best new person you met?

Probably Stephanie. She’s just delightful. But I’m glad I met Joseph, Karen, and Anna too.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:

Be careful when something good happens, as it’s an omen that something bad will happen soon after.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

Where did everyone go? You’ve all left me behind
If you can, God, return me to those innocent days
So afraid of the unseen future and scared of everyone’s expectations
It makes me want to escape to a page of the old, dusty photo album
Even then, even then, a new morning begins again
Just like this, just like this, it would be sad to wait for night
This dream that’s wake and about to falter
No matter how unsightly it is
A crybaby should bear the rain of tears like a crybaby

I was always searching for a place where I could be myself
A pitifully small amount of courage and an embarrassingly large hope
Carrying these in my heart, forevermore

- Chippoke na Yuuki (A Miniscule Amount of Courage) by FUNKY MONKEY BABYS

Anyway. Hope everyone has a good New Year's Eve!
