6.07

I started off this season with a cautious, but optimistic, outlook.

I was reluctant to throw my lot in and declare love too soon, but in spite of a few concerns, I was close as of 6.06.

I'm probably going to be slammed for saying this, but it's the honest truth.
I'm concerned.

Our little foray into too-many-plotlines land seems to have backtracked for now.
But...

While there's nothing really wrong with the fact that Crowley is the one who resurrected Sam and brought down Grandpa Campbell, I don't think I like it. My knee-jerk reaction is that it isn't consistent with the Crowley I know, although to be fair the Crowley we know was only behaving that way to keep Lucifer from taking over, wiping the demons out, and threatening his future status as King of Hell.

It feels too easy, and the whole "I want the Alphas so I can find Purgatory" thing is going to require quite a bit of explanation for me to buy it.
The idea of Purgatory being the place where all the ooky spookies go when they die is interesting, and I'm curious to see where they take it.

The fact that Crowley has grown so powerful and ended up where he is raises a lot of questions - some as recent as 6.04.
This is a little, niggling thing, but it bothers me.
If Crowley has the power to separate Sam's soul from his physical form, he didn't have to acquiesce to Bobby's demands.
When you've got the kind of mojo to raise someone from Lucifer's cage, getting halfway around the world in time to stop the lighter falling from Dean Winchester's hands to touch your bones is easy business. Hell, you could probably make the lighter disappear and turn both Winchesters into sock puppets to save yourself the trip.

I'm happy about the prospect of seeing more Crowley, I'm just disappointed that he's the explanation for Sam's return. There's still a lot of room for storyline expansion and growth, and I'm really interested to see where things go from here.
(also, badass vampire Alpha is badass. Loved him.)

All that aside, I fucking adored Cas in this episode.
His little exchange with Grandpa Campbell was excellent, and the little bondagey bit with Sam was utterly drool-worthy.

I also really liked Christian's jealous little thing with Dean. It was so cute how grinny Christian got whenever Sam was around, and what a Negative Norbert he turned into whenever Dean was anywhere nearby.

I'm also really glad my initial hunch about Grandpa Campbell being a Dubious McCreepyface turned out to be not so far off the mark. I was afraid my SPN-dar might have been slipping.

Overall Reaction: Underwhelmed. Still very hopeful, but a bit disappointed, for now.
Season six has been responsible for some absolutely fantastic moments and one of my favorite episodes, and I'm sure there will be more.
