Today (and by today I mean the yesterday that has bled over into today because I don't go to bed at sane hours) was a good day.
I love my new car dearly, and she drives like a dream.
The boy and I took her out for a spin a few hours ago, after the sun went down and the roads were clear. It was my first time driving her for an extended period of time, and the first time I've really driven a car in about five years. Learning to drive in Southern California is a daunting process for a girl who drove up driving on Alaskan "highways" where the maximum number of lanes, in total, was two and the speed limit was 45 miles an hour, and when my dearest darling boyfriend/teacher decided to direct me to one of the busiest streets in the area, with three lanes of traffic heading in each direction and stoplights and signs and so many things to observe in order to keep from crashing into stuff...
I handled myself pretty well. I didn't realize how scared shitless I was until after the fact, when we were driving home on a less-main road and I hit the right-hand turn signal to make a left-hand turn and almost mistook the brake pedal for the gas. Takes a lot to get me that flustered.
Once we got home, I sat there for a few minutes to shake off the sensory/terror overload and threaten the boy with grievous bodily harm if he ever put me in a situation like that again before I was ready (he thought the exposure would be good for me, and to be fair, he wouldn't endanger either one of us, but it was still scary as hell). I was planning on calling it a night, but I decided that fear is for wussies, calmed down, and spent another hour driving the quiet, pretty backroads.
My only complaint about the car thus far is that the douchebag who owned her before me decided her windows needed to be tinted, which makes driving at night a flaming pain in the keester.
In addition to that, I received a pretty new shirt in the mail along with the awesome Star Trek insignia washcloths I won in the
gulf_aid_now charity auction, and had tasty tasty food.
Right now, I'm alternating between reading excellent fic, reading Starship Troopers, making headway on Chapter 4 in my Perish Twice series, and talking to my best friend, who I miss like none other.
I think its time to make waffles.
Waffles are good.
