Characters: Clare, Kairi, may be a bit more open later. Time: After Week Change Location: Hard Rock Hotel's Bar Content: Clare's a bit... overwhelmed by things. It all seems hopeless. Format: Whatever works. Warnings: :3
It was Clare's turn to watch Kairi, looking for some insight into that confidence she had. Clare figured Kairi was a little younger, but all the same had something in her that assured her statements were truth. She was sure they would go home, it was nice but... Clare couldn't just accept it. Especially since Clare couldn't see some evidence in Kairi to support her position that everything would work out like some Disney fairy tale just because she says so. This entire time in Chicago had been far closer to a story told by the brothers Grimm.
Clare's smile in return was weak, a warning to the incoming objection to Kairi's reassurance, "I wish I could just believe that... that we'll all get home. It would be nice if it just all worked out like that in the end. Happily ever after."
A small part of Clare nagged at the corner of her mind as she stared at the drink and glass, another fault and failure to own up to. Here Kairi was trying to cheer her up, while Kairi's friend... possibly more than friend, was in a bad way. Another way this situation was worse that Clare initially thought. "Sorry," Clare's eyes stayed far from Kairi's, "if I had given M- her what she wanted she wouldn't have used her magic on Sora." If Clare was a better actress maybe she could have sold giving up the pendant, gotten the Arthurian Lady to leave with it and not touch the other pillars, the real pillars. She also wouldn't have hurt so many people, hurt someone important to Kairi.
"He got hurt because of me..." Clare had once accused her ex boyfriend, K.C. Guthrie, of pushing away responsibility on anyone within arm's reach. That no situation was his fault, Clare was guilty of the opposite failing, any failing within her grasp is something she failed to prevent. Some logical path would lead to this truth, and to her it was truth. She could have made another choice, a better choice, the right choice. "And here you are trying to cheer me up."
