Derek had been walking, keeping some attention to the countdown on the device. It troubled him like how that not right feeling, not right sounding was everywhere.

He kept his grip on the nightstick tight and made sure he hadn't lost Morris' fedora.

"You seem tense," Karrin remarked as she came up behind the man in a suit. She was heading back in. The countdown had her antsy as well and even though she knew it was dangerous, she couldn't just stay holed up in the hotel all the time.

The whole city seemed to have a nervous air about it. Karrin didn't have any sort of 6th sense but she knew her town...or had gotten used to this fake town. There was something in the air that even she could feel.

The Agent lifted his head at the approaching tune, not surprised when he didn't recognize it. (That was the case with everyone.) He gave a slight nod to the woman.

"Mysterious Countdown's rarely good." Derek checked his phone again, frown tightening a bit. "Not sure what to expect except that it'll be unexpected."

Karrin glanced down at the phone she had been carrying in her hand for some time. It was hard not to watch that clock. "Yeah, no kidding. Especially since we have no idea what is being counted down to. It's about as ominous as everything else that has been happening though."

She paused before pocketing the phone again, "I'm Karrin Murphy by the way. Sorry I snuck up on you...been sort of antsy since the countdown popped up."

"Guessing this countdown doesn't happen often." There would have been more talk on the network about what happened last time rather than wondering if they had been the only one. "The reflections and bad feelings don't help."

Derek did the same as Karrin and stuck his phone in his suit pocket. Keeping his eyes glued to it wouldn't do anyone much good right now. "I'm Derek. Nice to meet you, Karrin,. Circumstances withstanding." Tacking on that last part had become habit by now. "And don't worry about it. Think we all are."

"No. We haven't had a countdown before. Granted, a lot of things have been happening lately that haven't happened before...like Cloud Gate blowing up...or someone being sacrificed for it." She fell silent, she hadn't known Neal very well but she still felt his loss...he had been close to Jennifer after all.

She smiled slightly at the introduction, "Yeah, same here."

"So everything that's happening now is a change?" Derek crossed his arms and, behind his shades, closed his eyes to listen. He couldn't make sense of what he heard... or didn't hear. His Music Sense wouldn't be much good for whatever this was either.

"Don't like the idea of just waiting." But, what else could they do?

She nodded, looking out towards the Cloud Gate. Things were spiraling out of control and being one of the mere mortals in the city was becoming a hazard. She wished there was time to figure out this countdown but she knew once again they'd be caught off guard. "Yeah, me neither. We have about an hour left...wanna grab a cup of coffee before the shit hits the fan?"

The offer surprised him, but then a second later, he realized that it would probably be a more productive thing to do. "... Sure. A little extra caffeine can't hurt." Considering he had another bout of insomnia last night, it would probably do him a lot of good. Derek waited for Karrin to lead the way.

"Yeah, trust me. I have a feeling this night is gonna go to hell and if I'm gonna be up another 24 hours I need a good coffee. We'll get it to go if that's okay." Karrin started walking towards a nearby Starbucks because they were everywhere in Chicago.

"That bad?" It was more of a rhetorical question. They'd be lucky if it was only 24 hours at the rate thing had been happening. "To go's fine. Don't want to miss the action sitting in a coffee shop." Derek followed Karrin to the coffee shop, mulling over what he'd get. Whatever it would be, Derek would get the largest size.

She smirked, "Yeah. I don't want that happening either, it's why I said to go." Despite being a mere mortal there was no way in hell she was being caught off guard and out of the fight. She'd come too far now, it just wouldn't be fair.

Karrin entered the coffee shop and approached the barista straight away, "Black coffee, largest size, don't fill it all the way." She looked over to Derek, "You?"

And wherever people needed help, that was where an Agent should be. Derek looked at the barista. Might as well go with a favorite. Who knew when he'd next get a chance to get a cup. "Mocha. Also the largest."

As the barista was making the drinks, Derek wandered to look outside at the empty streets.

Karrin glanced over at him as he stared out at the street. She had to admit she was curious about the guy with crazy hair in a suit. She approached the window while the coffees were being made, looking out at the empty streets, "Ever been to Chicago before? Hate to think this is your first impression."

"Been a few times on business but not very long." Derek continued looking out the window. Even at this hour, there should have been more people out, or at the very least, cars should have been on the streets. "You?"

"Lived here my whole life...well...the REAL Chicago, not this magical copy," Karrin replied. She sighed, wishing the streets were alive like she remembered them. It was a dangerous city, filled with crime and trouble. It was still HER city. It still meant something to her, so to see it like this was still troubling even after all this time.

"Coffee is ready!" The barista called.

Karrin sighed and turned to get her cup of joe along with Derek's mocha. She brought it over to him and held it up, "Here."
