She was bored, mostly, and she figured a good look over the city couldn't be too bad. She hadn't figured out much more than she had learned those first couple of days she was here, but it was looking like she had all the time in the world to figure it out... unfortunately. She'd kind of like to get back to the castle sometime. Not that she missed the prince or Flonne or anything like that, but it felt just a little weird not hearing the complaining or the love-talk or the sounds of prinnies shuffling about and being lazy. She'd at least had the last part and her anger at the prince to keep her occupied when she was in Veldime ( ... )

J had made a point of being a bit more careful around here - the whole wolf belt thing had shaken him more than he liked to admit, and he figured the best he could do until he figured out what exactly was going on was to stay aware and avoid getting taken by surprise - or making stupid mistakes - again. He'd heard the crowd in the theater - nothing like show business, even if it was a bit out of place with the city like this - checked it out, and left, heading back to the hotel.

Of course, that plan of action would have worked a whole lot better if his timing hadn't been off. The sun had set before he was halfway back to the hotel, putting him a bit more on edge than usual. In a city like this, the last thing he wanted to be was alone in the dark.

Well, at least the "alone" thing wasn't going to happen. He caught the faint strains of a tune up ahead of him, finding it to belong to a girl who sounded a lot older than she looked when he caught up to her...and had wings and a tail to boot. Um. Time to be cautious ( ... )

Why she found herself in these situations, Ziva really didn't know. Although she knew better to be out after dark in a city like this, with incidents going on as they had been, there she was, wandering the streets. She probably shouldn't be alone either, but, that was that, she'd be just fine, she couldn't be that far from the hotel anyway.

But, just in case, she had one of her smaller knives hidden in her hand, in case she was attacked by anyone on the streets. It was good to be prepared, since she didn't know what was going to be around the next corner...

...like the girl with wings and a tail, and the guy who looked like he had a tornado for hair...

Etna perked up when she heard someone speak up, and turned around to face the speaker, who officially had one of the oddest hairstyles she had ever seen--which was saying something. Was that a natural thing or did he actually spend who-knew-how-many hours every morning making his hair look like that?

The tiniest of smiles appeared on her face at his words, a look of amusement more than anything else. "Really?" she asked, half-heartedly attempting to look the picture of innocence. A difficult feat for any demon, even if she had been trying. "I'm pretty sure anything out here has more to worry about than I do." For Etna, it was a fact, plain and simple, though a little bit of pride managed to show through.

"Oh, and the other person here can go ahead and come out too."

He'd picked up on the secondary tune approaching but kept his mouth shut. The new tune didn't sound menacing - just wary, the same way he was sure his own Music would sound right about now.

Instead, he focused on the tune of the girl in front of him, which definitely didn't match her barely-innocent smile. He quirked an eyebrow. "Yeah, I'll bet." With an attitude like that and a tune to match, staying on this girl's good side was definitely now on J's priority list.

Well, he'd been trying not to call out the other tune, but... He looked over his shoulder in the direction of the new Music. "Don't worry, we don't bite," he offered with a smile. Well, at least he didn't.

Ziva was surprised that they had both known that she was there. She wasn't trying to be sneaking around, but she was trying to be wary to keep herself safe. But, somehow they heard her. She figured they were listening pretty closely, considering.

She walked out into the road where they were, walking over to them. She smiled a bit, mostly to not look threatening, because she wasn't at the moment.

"I would hope you do not." She said to J's comment about biting, still smiling. She knew it was a joke.

So it was just another lady out on the streets. Either she'd ended up wandering into one of the busier parts of town or she was just lucky enough to come across a few more people. With the theater up in lights nearby, it could go either way.

"So... What are you two doing out here on a night like this?" she asked curiously. "I mean, if it's so dangerous and all. Something tells me you're not talking about the usual robbers and muggers." She placed a hand on her hip and cocked her head to the side, looking between the two. Didn't look like either of them knew each other.

And then a faint song reached Etna's ears. "Huh. Looks like we've got more company." Company in a pretty good mood from the sounds of it.

Getting a smile back was always a good thing. "Well, what kind of gentleman would I be if I did?"

He shrugged at the smaller girl's question. "Tryin' to get home, actually." After all, why worry about robbers and muggers when there were faeries and werewolves instead? "Would you believe there's horror movie stuff out here?"

His head jerked up at the girl's comment and the faint tune that was finally coming in - the hummed tune, that was. He focused on the woman on the fringed dress, and...nothing. She was more than close enough for him to pick up on her tune, but there simply wasn't one. The only two tunes he could pick up in the Music right now were the smaller girl's and the woman who had been hiding. The woman in the dress had nothing going for her.

"Somethin's wrong," he murmured, hopefully quiet enough that the humming woman couldn't hear him. "She- there's somethin' wrong with her." And here he'd been hoping to avoid this sort of thing.

Ziva nodded at the man's answer. She was mainly trying to get back to the hotel and to sleep. But, this was probably going to be an unexpected detour. When she heard Etna's comment, she looked down the street, catching a glimpse of the new arrival. The man's comment worried her, but the glint of silver when the woman adjusted her dress worried her more.

In under a minute, the knife Ziva had in her hand was back in the holder, and in it's place was her side arm. No one would have noticed unless they were really paying attention, because she didn't want to draw attention to the fact that she was armed.

"If that silver is what I think it is, when I say move. Just move." She said to J, who happened to be standing at her right side, her shooting hand. He wasn't in any major danger here, but she'd rather not shoot someone who could be an ally in this place.

Etna snickered, a catlike smirk appearing on her face. "I can believe that," she replied simply, wondering if the man had even realized exactly what he was talking to. She wondered if all humans were this dense when it came to demons. Or maybe they had all just been in this place so long that their weirdness censor was going into overdrive ( ... )

J didn't say anything - just gave a slight nod at the warning. He'd heard the smooth switch from wary to prepared in the woman's tune and he was willing to trust whatever she was going to try; it was probably better than his plan, which was currently nonexistent.

Thankfully, the silver wound up being just a flask. He heard the smaller girl's tune drop and tensed just a bit. If they were going to get thrown off because of this... "Don't let the booze fool you," he muttered. "Somethin's still up." After all, alcohol didn't cause that gap in the Music where a person should be.

Death did.

That realization dropped his stomach to his shoes. Zombies didn't talk, did they? But then what in Jagger's name was this woman, aside from a throwback from eighty years ago? "Can't say gin's really my thing," he commented, trying not to show his nervousness.

"That is easy to see. I wonder how many of those she has already had tonight." Ziva didn't step down, nor did she put her gun back in her holster. She wasn't going to let her guard down for anything. She'd been jumped by enough drunks to know they weren't in the clear yet.

"Gin my not be my drink of choice, but I have to agree. Things just are not what they used to be."

This guy was pretty sure of himself, wasn't he? Etna wondered if he could tell something about this lady that she couldn't. The woman near them also seemed to be pretty on edge, and Etna now couldn't help but wonder if her womanly intuition was a little on the blink ( ... )
