Tonks was wandering around, trying to get her bearings. Her own wand light was flickering as she wandered the streets. She heard the familiar pop of an apparation and frowned. Fred and Fleur knew that apparating wouldn't work, and wasn't this right by where she showed up?

"Oi..." she called out, seeing the person with the wand. Someone from back home, perhaps?

Draco turned around, and saw another faint light.

"Hullo? Who's there?"

Tonks made her way slowly to the person... and froze when she saw who it was. "Bloody..." she hissed. "Wotcher, Draco... Fancy seeing you here."

Draco wanted to facepalm. Of course he just had to run into somebody from home, and of course, it's the wrong side of the family.

"Hullo Nymphadora. Rather surprised to see you here." While the battle was over back home, he was yet unaware of her fate.

"Tonks," she corrected flatly. "It is a surprise for us both then."

Her fingers tightened around her wand, sending shocks of pain to the wound where she had splinched herself upon her arrival.

"Tonks," he coolly said in turn.

"So we've both somehow ended up in the States. You didn't happen to see a Portkey around did you?"

She sighed and shook her head. "No. Afraid I didn't. Did you?"

Really, of all the people to run into. Draco? It could have only been worse if it was Bellatrix or a crazier member of their family.

"No. Merlin take it. And of course they set up an anti-Apparating charm. Lovely," he sniffed at the idea.

His own opinion of Aunt Bella was decidedly mixed, though he'd agree she was completely mad. Her obsession with the Dark Lord especially when he couldn't even stand being in the same room with him.

Draco then went to look around.

"Well I heard there are inns somewhere nearby."

"Wards of all sorts, really..."

Tonks wasn't all that fond of having to play nice with her cousin... But if they were both stuck here... "Have you tried any other magic yet? Almost impossible to keep a proper charm going..."

Draco could have done without most reminders of home really. Other than his parents.

"Just the Lumos spell, and that works well enough." If things were messing up their magic, he would be right put out.

"Weaker spells would," Tonks sighed. She chewed on her lip thoughtfully before continuing. "Try something a bit more difficult... it won't work properly."

"It won't?" More scowling from the wizard, but hardly surprising there.

"That shouldn't be possible. Unless it's a network of charms countering?"
