It was just like one of those sappy scenes from a telenovela: guy meets girl. Guy loses girl. Guy renunites with girl... only to lose her when she looked 2000 years old. Guy meets girl again in another dimension--and she still looked young! What were the odds? (Okay, so maybe it wasn't exactly like a telenovela, but Justin wasn't holding his breath.)

The minute he heard Juliet's voice, he willed himself to run faster to bridge the gap between them. Once he could clearly see her - no thanks to the "dust in his eyes" - he leaned over, caught his breath, and then gave her the biggest, dorkiest smile he could.

"... I never thought I'd see you again like this."

Juliet ran faster when she caught sight of him and had been expecting a huge hug... But he had to catch his breath first. She smiled and tried not to laugh... It had been going far too much like a movie scene really.

She blinked a bit and gave him a strange look. "Wait... See me again like what?"

That had been a strange way to phrase it...

"You don't remember?" This was weird. He thought she, of all people, would've remembered fighting Mason. "I found you in Transylvania, but then I lost you just as quickly because Alex's ex-boyfriend Mason decided to go crazy werewolf on us."

The specifics really weren't something he wanted to dwell on, especially since the memories were just too painful, but... "... But... I guess it's not that important?"

Juliet blinked and furrowed her eyebrows. "Justin... That.... I didn't even know Alex was dating Mason... And I especially didn't know he was back in town..."

She frowned. Is that how things were going to end up, then? How had he lost her to Mason...? "The... last thing that happened before I came here was that I was just about to be put under that stupid mummy's spell..." She bit her lip and sighed. "I.... heard from other people.... That the timeline in this place is all screwy... Like... people showing up from different parts in time or whatever..."

Oh god. She didn't know. That Jason kid was right: apparently they not only had the gall to summon people from different worlds, but they also had the nerve to bring them from different points in time! Justin gritted his teeth, impatiently stomping his foot.

"Our lives aren't a stupid comic book," He groaned, trying to suppress his anger. "... In this case, it's a really good thing you don't know. You didn't start dating Mason or whatever, but he started having googly eyes for you and you know Alex. She got mad and then he got mad and... yeah."

He weakly shrugged, "Compared to that, senior year was a breeze."

Juliet's hand found his shoulder and she rubbed it a little, trying to calm him down... to assure him it would be okay. She smiled weakly and sighed. "Of course I didn't start dating Mason again," she murmured. "I'm in love with you, silly."

She stood on the tips of her toes and pressed her lips to his cheek briefly. "I... you don't have to fill me in on what happened.. I can tell it was kind of... intense."

He really couldn't help snorting a little. The thought of Mason and Juliet dating again didn't bother him as much as Mason breaking it off with Alex... funny how things worked out sometimes.

Leaning forward, he lightly pressed his lips against hers, "Sorry. It wasn't actually something any of us wanted to hear."

So he gently took her hand and squeezed it, "So what else do I need to know about this Chicago?"

Juliet smiled at the kiss, ignoring the fact that he'd found something funny about her reassurance. "I understand..."

She intertwined her fingers with his and gave his hand a squeeze. "Um.... Monsters much scarier than the ones back home... We're stuck here... Lots and lots of magic around."

"I can deal with lots of magic," He laughed, swaying gently as he looked at her again. God, he still couldn't believe they were here. Together. Like everything was normal. "I mean, I still have you, right?"

Juliet smiled up at him and actually "awww"ed at his comment. He was getting her really off topic, with his goofy lines and smooth talking. Well... Smooth for him. "Justin... God, that was sweet... But this is serious. It's more powerful than anything we've seen... Than I've even seen in my lifetime."

Okay, so she was serious about the scary and the powerful if it was worse than anything she'd ever seen before over the centuries. Justin made a face, "God, seriously? Is that why I was summoned here or whatever?"

He'd tried out his magic once - at the Bean place - and couldn't use it as well as he used to. This, understandably, had put a damper on his spirits. "Sorry, I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but... Did this place wreck havoc on your powers too?"

"I'm not really sure? I mean, it seems to really pull people at random..."

Juliet nuzzled her head against his shoulder a little. "It's okay... Yeah. It really did... I can't stay in bat form for too long and that's if I'm lucky."

That didn't sound good. Justin sighed, starting to slowly walk towards the hotel - or at least, what he hoped was the direction of said hotel. "So they messed with our powers when we were pulled in. Awesome."

Perhaps he shouldn't have made his sarcasm so obvious, but he couldn't help feeling frustrated. Had he been able to use all of his magic - even the teleportation spells - then he would've been home in time for dinner. Still, a little voice nagged in his head, did he want to leave? When he had her in arms' reach again? Probably not.

"They also said there were vampires," He said after a moment. "Dangerous ones. They... don't know about you, do they?"

Juliet made sure to steer him in the right direction of the hotel, holding onto him as if she were afraid she'd lose him if she let go. She could tell he was frustrated... She couldn't blame him.

She pressed her lips together and shook her head. "Only a couple know about me... Ah, they don't really trust me... I can't really blame him. The vampires here are kind of worse than my parents... Even worse than my dad on a bad day."

"That would explain why everyone kept telling me they were bad news," Justin sighed. Even with his independent study on monster hunting, it still wouldn't have ended well if he were there alone when monsters approached. Trying to keep his voice light, he attempted to give Juliet a smile.

"But at least a lot of them don't know." Although he would've normally championed for equality, Justin knew this wasn't the time. "That makes things slightly easier."

Juliet nodded her head, her mood immediately sobering. "It's not just vampires, either..."

She sighed and tried her best to smile. "It's easier... And the cloudy skies lately have made it easier to throw off suspicions."

As they reached the Hotel, she made a gesture. "So, this is it. This one doesn't have wards to keep monsters out..."
