Characters: Dahlia and you~ Time: Midday sometime Location: Millenium Park Content: Dahlia’s trying this whole “blending in” thing, for now. Format: Prose Warnings: It’s Dahlia and her pain stick.
Clare was, for the most part, sheltered. Not a lot of real world events to shape her, the scariest moments of her life her sister was in trouble, or she did something socially bad at school. For the most part, she was never injured in a great way, no physical pains in her past that effected her, that she could recall.
So when the weapon touched her shoulder she had no memory to compare it to. And if she did, she was sure it would fall short. The scream she let out was loud and ripped through the air. Whatever serenity this park had broken by a scream of absolute utter torment. A physical pain Clare didn't think could exist, something that as she felt it she couldn't make words form to cover what was happening.
Now, Link certainly wasn't the type to ignore a scream like that. Hero-types, you know how they get. Whatever Link had been doing before the girl's scream cut through the air was dropped, and he ran in the direction of it to find a woman torturing a younger girl
"Hey!" Link called, whipping out his sword and pointing it at the woman, "Whatever it is you're doing to her, stop!"
Of course, at four foot nothing, and with his very childish sounding voice, Link was hardly the most intimidating of heroes, even with his sword pointing at the woman's back.
There was something to be said about a good, bone chilling scream. The kind that Dahlia hadn't heard in far too long. Her lips twisted into a smile and she leaned over, pressing her finger to the girl's lips. "Shhhh, shhh," she cooed. "It will all be over soon."
She didn't intend to murder the girl, just for her to give the town and its inhabitants a proper warning about her. She had a reputation to build and it wouldn't build itself. She pulled the Agiel away from the girl's shoulder when she heard another voice. A very small voice. She turned to glance over her shoulder, the tip of her Agiel hovering precariously around her throat.
Her eyebrows shot up as her face danced with amusement. Really? "Run along, pet. This doesn't concern you."
Clare scrambled away from Dahlia, and with no grace at all, fell off the bench with a thud. Thankfully she wasn't too far from the ground and her shoulder hurt a lot, so landing on her behind in the grass wasn't that bad... comparatively.
However, the guilt that she was putting a kid in danger, and shame that he looked to be quite a bit capable at the sword he held. His voice, the green pajamas, nothing there said he was good. But the way he held that sword, was like he did it a lot. He looked at at home with that sword as she was in the library.
The girl fumbled out her communication device, the one she found when she arrived, clicked the a button on it and started crying into it. "Please, send help, some mad woman attacked me and some kid is getting ready to fight her.. what the hell is this she has one of these phones too..." Her breathing was labored, it hurt when her shoulder moved at all. "We're in the park we arrived in," the throb in her shoulder caused her to push her hand and her phone to her injury to put pressure on it, see if that helped. She clicked the recording off as it moved, sending the message out.
What the hell was wrong with this place... aside from all the other things she's run into.
"Yes it does, you're hurting her, you made it my concern."
Link wasn't going to start a fight, not if he didn't have to. That's not why the sword was out, he wanted to make it clear to the woman that he was serious about his intent on protecting the girl, that he wasn't just some kid who was getting himself in over his head. That, and it would make it easier for him to react if the woman did lash out.
When the girl fell off the bench, Link positioned himself next to her and he held his right hand out to her, so he could help her up.
"Nosy little twit, aren't you?" Dahlia mused, watching the child curiously. Her smirk widened as the girl called for help. Perfect. According to plan, really.
The only problem with this plan was that this ridiculous dress offered no protection, or at least nothing even close to what her leather usually would. Her fingers tightened around the Agiel as she brought it up, pointing it at the child like he was doing with his sword. "Thank you, Clare... For the public broadcast... Perhaps I should reward you for being such a good girl and doing just what I wanted you to...."
"Leave us alone," Clare glared at the woman. Being rescued by an elf over a foot shorter than you usually would get some level of fire out of anyone. Especially when this was stupid, why on Earth did this woman just attack her.
Clare did her best to get up without the boy's help, and the pain was the thing holding her fear out of sight. Since it was very easy to turn pain and confusion into anger. "You just wanted to send a message to tell everyone to hate you!? Why would anyone do that?"
Link withdrew his hand when the girl, Clare, got up without his help. Did she not want his help?
For a brief moment, Link looked as though his feelings had been hurt. They had been, but Link was trying his best to hide it, to keep it from being readable on his face. Unfortunately, Link wasn't the best at keeping his emotions completely in check.
When the woman brandished her weapon at him, Link took a step back and got out his shield. "Maybe she wants people to be scared of her," Link said, considering she had attacked this girl out of nowhere it wasn't much of a stretch to assume.
Dahlia's lips twitched as she let out a soft, dry laugh. "The kid's right," she cooed, taking a single step closer. She tilted her head and inspected them for a moment longer. "Fear and respect come hand in hand, often. The more people fear me, the more respect I'll have..."
She paused and made a circle in the air with her Agiel. "Really, it's just more fun this way."
"Respect born out of fear doesn't last," Clare shot back, a bit more defiance in her voice. While she was a bully with an actual reason to be feared, she was still nothing more than a bully. Clare was certain she would pick the wrong person in town to gain 'respect' from and it would bite her in the ass.
Clare of course couldn't provide that, but she could hope in a fair world someone did. Of course Clare's words were undercut as she took a step back when Dahlia took a step forward. Although the look of fire in her eyes probably did help, when Dahlia described her activities as fun.
Clare wished her rescuer was older, so she wouldn't feel bad hoping that a fight would start. But he was only a kid... a weird elf kid, but a kid. She couldn't be okay with him fighting Dahlia if there was any way around it.
He wasn't "only a kid", Clare, he was an honest to goodness hero, and he didn't think it should matter how old he was. He knew other people thought differently on that matter, though, and that's why he felt had to prove that he was capable and worthy of his reputation in Hyrule.
Link glanced over his shoulder, first up at the girl, then to where the nearest building. Then he looked back at Dahlia. He was trying to find a way out of here, so Clare wouldn't get hurt again.
Dahlia tilted her head to the side, amusement sparkling in her eyes. "It will last as long as I keep a good hold on it. The people of this town need to learn the same lesson those back home knew well. You don't mess with a Mord-Sith, and you'll learn to fear the very mention of my name..."
Her voice was almost a purr as she twirled her Agiel around with a satisfied hum. "Run along, the both of you. Unless you want me to send another message to the inhabitants about just how dangerous I am."
