Knives had a wonderful plan for the evening. She'd find a few people to play cards games and board games with and it would be fun! Simple silly fun. The kind of fun they needed but nobody would just sit back and relax enough to do it. She'd picked silly games for laughing at each other (and themselves) for what happens during the games.

She was all ready to spring this on people in the hotel when... power went out. Drat.

She shrugged and wandered out into the darkness to see what was happening. She was hoping this wasn't the time for the dark scary psuedo Silent Hill level because she never really cared for those. As she heard another voice she waved over at the light source, "Hi." She smiled in a friendly and energetic manner and skipped over. Sadly it was too dark to read the word 'hop' appear with her every step.

But, it wasn't too dark to read Knives Chau: Seventeen years old.

Shard may have been a comic book character, but she'd never had visible action tags. Or visible dialog boxes. Given current canon, it would probably be dumb, anyway.

She blinked at the girl, then at the box and back. "Knives?" she asked. "Hi. I'm Shard. Any clue what's going on here?"

She could deal with the rest of it later.

"Yup," Knives did smile about the fact that she got a name back without a lot of work. "And nope. But this is either 'bad guys attack our home for some thing they need,' or 'horror movie fear motif monsters'. I'm not sure yet."

Knives noticed the m over Shard's eye, and the bikini, and that she didn't have a flashlight. She didn't stare, mostly the lack of light and that it would be rude. The M... didn't Bishop have one of those in one of Scott's X-Men comics? And she certainly had the body of a Marvel super hero. Definitely had that... but that could wait till later. "Is it just light powers, or can you shoot beams and stuff like Cyclops?"

Shard raised an eyebrow, then looked down at herself. "And I'm dressed like a victim." She'd seen enough horror films with X-Factor that she had a clue, at least. "Wonderful."

She glanced at the girl and grinned. "Concussive force out of my hands. But my powers work by absorbing photons and converting them. Unfortunately, I don't get the nifty side effects Bish does." She could have used a healing factor or increased endurance.

"But you look very nice... and at least it isn't one of those string bikinis, then you'd be in a lot of trouble," Knives offered, trying to be optimistic. And friendly, she was trying to be friendly too.

At least she had powers that would help in a fight. Although at the mention of Biship Knives froze. "You wouldn't happen to be his little sister or something?" If she was the little sister to a Marvel character and dressed in a bikini in a dark and creepy scenario... Knives would have to be really careful covering her from attacks.

"String bikinis are only useful for sunbathing." Since Shard didn't get a tan or have to really worry about ultra violet light, it was most useful.

The question made her mouth twist up and Shard sighed. "Well. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you recognize him. But, yeah. He's my older brother." Even if she was used to it, being known as 'Bishop's little sister' was still annoying.

[back towards the hotel pool, there's a large, loud splash.]

"And telling you who is really really screwed in horror films," Knives didn't do a lot of sunbathing, the beach was more fun to just go swimming.

Yes, definitely need to keep an eye on her. Given that- what was that sound. Knives whirled around to look back at the pool, "You were alone in there, right?"

"To be fair, most serial killers don't normally go after you in broad daylight. Which is when most people would be wearing a string bikini." Shard's bikini had actual fabric, the top almost more like a sports bra. Useful if they had to run.

The sound behind them got her to turn, eyes wide and looking around. "I was, yeah," she agreed. "Man, this is not good."

[the pool area is still dark, but Shard's light casts weird, lurid shadows in the pool. Shadows that look like writhing tentacles.]

"...To be fair most people in horror films have no common sense, and would wear a string bikini in the middle of a blizzard," Knives drew out her two blades as they made their way to the pool. Eyes darting around for whatever might be the problem.

She saw the shadows, they looked like tentacles..? "We're so not in that sorta genre, right?" Knives screwed up her face in disgust. She'd never that sorta anime, but several people have told her about it to freak her out.

Shard crept closer to the edge of the pool. Not too close, though. "Honestly, if I'd known I was going to be caught in a fight, this is pretty much the last thing I would have worn. Body armor is much more reliable."

Not that she had any in Chicago. Times like this, she missed her old XSE uniform.

She glanced over at Knives. "That genre?" she asked. "I'm not sure I understand."

[Several of the writhing tentacles creep out of the pool and towards the two. And in the depths of the pool, something drifts. It looks like a... dorsal fin?]

Knives tried to figure out how to answer that when she spotted the dorsal fin and sighed, "Oh good, it's just lab created monster from some B movie." It was some sorta squid shark... thing.

She thought about asking Azazel about this but... it seemed pretty basic. "So... it has squid tentacles and a shark fin. Let's not fight it near the water at all." Knives took a few steps away from the sucker covered tentacle, trying to figure out how to deal with this.

She really wished she was good with explosions, that'd be good right now. Or if she had a hadoken. Also would be very useful right now.

Shard stared for half a moment before taking a few large steps back and away from the side of the pool. "So, what do you think? We could probably close the doors, walk away and wait on the lights to come back up."

Or...not really. Because it wasn't in Shard to just walk away and leave a possible threat for somebody else to stumble over. "Or we could try to take it out right now. Just need a good way to do it."

[the creature's sucker-covered tentacles grope around the edge of the pool emptily, and when it doesn't find anything to grab, it starts reaching farther out of the pool, as if trying to haul itself out]
