From the tone in Link's voice, Toph could easily tell he was more than confused by her actions.

"Look, I'm really, really bored, and I can't stand this stupid hotel any longer. I'm goin' to the basement and making a tunnel to go out to some places around here so I don't die of boredom." Yup. That was her plan. Make a tunnel so she wouldn't freeze or need an escort outside and explore the city a bit more. Besides, they might find something interesting for once.

Wait, what?

"You-you're gonna make a tunnel under the hotel?" That sounded kind of dangerous, actually, granted Link didn't know much about the structural integrity of buildings, but he couldn't imagine tunneling under the basement was a good idea.

"Are you deaf, dressy-pants?"

Toph continued down stairs and made it to the lobby where she weaved through the crowds of people and headed towards the basement. There was a sign posted that read, 'Personnel Only,' but Toph couldn't read, and even if she could, she didn't really care. The door was unlocked, and Toph opened it, walking down more stairs to get to a nice spot in the basement where she could start bending a tunnel without the building sustaining any damage.

"No, but isn't that a little dangerous?"

Unfortunately, Link still couldn't read English, so he couldn't warn Toph about the sign. But let's face it, the fake people that inhabited this world wouldn't even notice the oddly dressed children in the basement.

Toph couldn't help but laugh. "You've never been with an earthbender before, have you, dressy-pants?"

Toph knocked on a few walls, and it didn't take long for her to find one she found suitable for her goal. She stepped back and punched through the air as if there was some unseen foe in her way, but instead of just punching into nothing, the concrete wall moved and a hole formed where there wasn't one before. Toph moved forward, repeating the action and making the hole run deeper through the earth. Before too long, she looked back.

"You still wanna come?"

"No, they didn't have any earthbenders on my world," And no real earth magic to speak of, at least, not to Link's knowledge.

Though, he had to admit that an ability like that would have been very useful on his quest, he wouldn't have to waste bombs for blowing up walls, just push them out of the way.

"Yeah, someone has to keep you outta trouble," He said with a grin.

Toph paused in her tunnel-making to look back and give Link a grin herself. "Keep me outta trouble? What about you with your sword and bombs and what-not?" She laughed before continuing the tunnel, which was already a few yards deep. Before long, she'd have to change course to avoid the sewers under the city, but she'd cross that bridge when she got there.

"Well, I don't get in trouble," Well, not on purpose, at least. Link followed her down the tunnel, said sword and weapons clacking as he walked. The further down they got down Toph's tunnel, the more Link realized that he should have brought a light source along.

"Pfffffft. We won't get in trouble. What are the people around here gonna do? Yell at us?" If Toph and Link got thrown out of the hotel because of this, she'd just bend them a little tent to share right outside. She's be sure to connect it to the inside of the hotel too so they got some heat.

Toph kept on going, then felt that she was getting close to the sewers. She knocked on the rock in front of her and decided that it was structurally sound enough to go through instead of around and she bended the earth out of the way. Her face screwed up as the awful smells of Chicago's sewers filled her nostrils. Ok. Bad idea. Toph closed the wall again and decided to follow the sewer instead of going through it. Her nose wouldn't take it.

She was completely ignorant of Link's problem. She had been born blind, so Toph had become more than used to pure darkness. She could see well enough with her earthbedning. Link would have to find his own light source, because Toph didn't really care or not if he could see.
