"Hey..." Clare was pretty excitable at times, throwing herself into activities to keep her mind off everything. An entirely healthy way to deal with things. As such, with her entirely healthy way to deal with issues, she answers Minako honestly, "I'm fine, really."

...Maybe her dealing with stress in a healthy way was overstated a little. Clare looked at the drink for a moment. She wasn't exactly sure how anyone could be happy right now. She tried to put up some supporting statement, to confirm how fine she was. "I've been learning a lot, getting better to defend myself in case something like hallo-" she stopped, not entirely sure how to handle bringing that event back up, "I'm really okay, really." Very convincing Clare, very convincing.

"I'll be honest... I'm not really good at this," Minako sighed, glancing back at her own drink for a moment. "But I want to be there for you if you need me. You were there for me.. I'd like to return the favor..."

She smiled slightly when Clare mentioned that she was getting better at self defense... And blushed as she almost mentioned Halloween... Clearing her throat a little, she smiled again. "I'm glad you've been learning more. If you'd like, I can help a little with that... Or something?"

Clare quietly sipped from her drink, smiling a little at the offer. "It's a very nice offer, but I don't need the help," Clare wasn't the best actor, but she hoped that carried the message. She waited, thinking it over, then made sure Mrs. Carpenter wasn't in earshot. "A sparring partner would be appreciated, it's hard to just use a punching bag to train."

Mrs. Carpenter was very nice, but she had several moments of incurable maternal instinct. While good, she was very certain her mother would wholeheartedly disapproved of any of this. Mrs. Carpenter didn't seem the kind to approve of this line if learning. Clare kept pushing her food around, "Other than that, there's nothing that can really be done."

Minako stared at her for a long moment. Venus wanted to say yes... To teach this girl that reminded her so much of Mercury how to protect herself from the creatures that walked the streets.

"I'll spar with you," Minako replied, against her better judgment. "If it'll help, I'll do it."

You know that feeling reality television programs try to evoke when an elimination is coming. Drawing out the time between the question and the answer? It is a lot worse when you are the one waiting for the answer, and that the answer is actually of some importance opposed to the next musical sensation that will never actually sell.

She was talking to Minako, as far as she understood. Clare wasn't clear on how the Venus and Minako dynamic worked. Not entirely, she knew that both names applied, and that one applied in a specific outfit. However she wasn't sure if it was just a habit to switch names or an actual completely personality switch. Clare smiled, "Thanks... it really helps."

Of course, why it helped was that it kept her occupied. And that every little thing Clare could do aside think of her situation, the better.

Minako wasn't even sure how the Venus/Minako dynamic worked. When she'd regained her past memories, she'd regained her past personality as well it had seemed.. And even rebirth hadn't taken care of that.

So even as she wrung her hands and continuously told herself mentally that she was doing the right thing, her smile was still a little strained. She had yet to actually convince herself of it. "I just want you to stay safe... I want to do what I can to help.... So... you're welcome, I guess..."
