Fifteen men on a dead man's chest

Sep 27, 2010 00:51

Characters: Knives, Agent Derek, the Doctor, Zoro, Axel, Billy Borden, Sora, Kitten, Spin, Toph, Ebenezar McCoy, Billy Kaplan, Usopp (whew!)
Time: Night - there is no passing of time here
Location: Aboard a pirate ship in the middle of the ocean
Content: Nabbing constellations? Doesn't sound too hard. It's not as if you're looking for dangerous mythological animals or anything.
Format: Starting in prose, reverting to action. Due to the number of characters, a posting order is completely optional. As soon as intros are made, additional threads will be posted up so players aren't bogged down by the size of the log.
Warnings: Some nautical terminology, some big damn hats, and pirates. No muppets though.
Mod Note: Both logs currently up, both this one and the boat log, are event logs. Important things will be happening in both. Also, your characters are now dressed as pirates. Carry on.

The ocean was ablaze with starlight, an infinite darkness that reflected the swirling night sky so perfectly that the horizon vanished and sky and sea became one. It was silent except for the quiet wash of gentle waves lapping against the wooden hull of the ship as it apparently drifted through a star-filled void - it was odd to have such a flat calm, no breeze even to cause the Jolly Roger to sway far overhead on the main mast. Aboard the ship itself, oil lanterns were the only sources of man-made light, although they were hardly needed due to the brightness of millions of stars.

The crew - the scattered few still above decks - were making their nightly rounds when nearly a dozen people (and a dragon) appeared just aft of the fo'c'sle deck. For a few moments, there was nothing except startled silence from both groups as they tried to grasp what in the world had just happened.

And just as quickly, the silence was immediately filled with shouts, dropped buckets, and the sounds of hammers being pulled back on pistols - obviously, being taken by surprise in the middle of a dead quiet ocean was not something that sat well with any of the pirates.

"Stay your hands, lads." The voice - calm, authoritative, and heavily accented - was accompanied by steady and heavy footsteps and the soft swish of a leather coat. "These fine folk may be the ones we were told about."

Turning, all eyes on the deck would see a dark-haired man descending the staircase from the fo'c'sle deck. He carried himself with such self-confidence, it would have almost seemed if he were full of himself. But there was the slight way his fingers carefully drummed against the holster at his side, the faint grin on his face, or the fiery expression of both curiosity and annoyance that lit up his eyes that belied the self-assurance.

Or it could have been the big damn hat that he was wearing that clearly marked him as captain - he had every right to be full of himself.

He glanced down at the group, and raised an eyebrow. "Be quick about your answer or I will forget the words I spoke to your masters. What matters do ye ghosts attend to?"
