Clare was now past thoughts of 'does this woman have a weapon,' as that seemed rather unlikely. She was now on the thought of 'how do you go out in an outfit like that at all, let alone in November.'

Clare played with her abstinence ring, yes the other ring was the one in discussion here, but she's much more used to playing with her abstinence ring. "I was given something... it stores movement, like a battery." She paused, reevaluating the statement, "No, like if you automatically transfer a small portion of every check you receive from your checking to your savings account. A little bit every time, till it has enough you can use it for bigger things. Like the punching I was doing..."

As to how special Clare was, she didn't really respond to it. She'd decided before she arrived here that the fairytale that 'everyone is special in their own way' was logically untrue as that meant everyone being special was a commonality. If that was the case her only attribute making her special was the 'special trait shared by everyone.' In that case, what makes her special is that she is incredibly dull. Now that she's here, surrounded by superheroes and monsters. She certainly does stick out by being especially ordinary. However she didn't say any of this because she didn't want to argue the point, she just let that all sit inside the back of her mind.

Maureen had yet to find a jacket she liked in this city, and she refused to walk around in anything less than what she considered hot. And Joanne wasn't around to lecture her on it, so she didn't worry too much.

She smiled a little at the analogy. If she had paychecks... or ones big enough to set something aside. "Can't say I've ever seen anything like that."

It was best Clare didn't argue with Maureen. The performance artist would have argued until she was blue in the face. But what was even more was the fact that Maureen just really wasn't good with anyone under the age of 18. She was terrible with kids.

"Then you're probably from somewhere like I am..." Clare offered, then realized that was vague and misleading, "I mean a life without Magic and monsters. The ring isn't technology, that would be impossible." Clare really needed a new way to differentiate actively impossible still, and things she believes impossible without the intervention of the supernatural. Just to be clear on matters, as she does understand magic exists but she doesn't want to completely rewrite her understanding of the cosmos to accept it... have that information be a separate volume of some sort.

"Where are you from anyway? ...if you don't mind the question."

"Magic's something in movies and monsters are corporate drones," Maureen laughed, shaking her head. "So yeah... Guess I am from a place like yours."

She shrugged her shoulders. "I don't mind the question.... New York City.... 1990... since I guess time's all bat shit crazy right now too. And where are you from, cutie?"

She blushed at the word cutie, she wasn't sure why she did. Oh right, that's not the usual form of compliment she gets, ever. Especially not from people in a different social age range from her. She wasn't sure if it was condescending or sincere, still, it gets a blush and confusion from Clare.

Clare pushed any thoughts over that word to the side, to respond to the query placed, "Toronto Canada, 2008. Just shy of actually being from the year this place says it is, it must be a bit weird, 20 years of technological advancement to deal with." Okay, Clare didn't handle that thought well, but she was born several years after Maureen was lifted from. There were a few items Clare couldn't imagine the world without that Maureen wouldn't even know existed.

Clare quietly leaned against the wall. It was times like this she missed home the most. As she would really like Alli's advice on matters and... she couldn't get it. Although she was fairly certain that this is one of the few times Alli would have a useful insight, her friend would probably handle the magic and monsters aspect... badly.
