Inside St. Mary of the Angels secondcity_npc October 16 2011, 22:48:01 UTC
The inside of the church was filled with golden shadows and white light, despite the dreariness and violence that filled a majority of the city. People that had sought refuge in the famous, hallowed halls were huddled on the pews, talking quietly amongst themselves of the strange happenings that had stormed the city. One would have expected there to be a bit more hysteria amongst the crowd, but there was a strange sense of serenity that had settled there ( ... )

Charity's gaze locked onto the source of a very familiar call instantly, and an incredulous smile graced her face. "Harry," she breathed, hardly daring to believe she had them back at last. As the children tackled her in an enthusiastic embrace, she choked out a small laugh accompanied by a tear or two. "My babies," she said quietly, tearing her eyes from them for the barest instant to glance upward in gratitude for their safety.

She kissed each of them on the head in turn, ruffling hair and whispering names. "Daniel. Matthew. Alicia. Amanda. Hope. Harry." Her youngest, she hugged especially tightly. "I missed you all so much." And then she looked up again, over the heads of Hope and Harry. Charity knew that unless the worst had come to pass, Michael would never be far from their family in a time like this. She just prayed he was following the children a little bit more slowly.

More than six months. 'Missed' wasn't nearly a strong enough word, and 'joy' and 'relief' were only shadows of what she felt now.

Karrin limped into the church. She wasn't quite sure when she'd been injured in the leg and she had a feeling there were a number of other injuries, however it felt good to see the relief wash over the faces of the crowd as they realized there was no demon coming to take them today. Her citizens were protected...at least from that. She felt like collapsing on the spot but she had to take a moment to admire the scene between Charity and her children. It made her feel warm and it was moments like this that she had decided to take the many courses she had.

Karrin turned away and looked outside to the city, she couldn't help but wonder what the others were up to and how their fights were going.

She-Hulk came to the doors of the church and stopped, taking a deep breath. She could not go inside covered in blood and being green. She chose just covered in blood, calming herself and shrinking down into the slender figure of Jennifer before she walked into the church.

A smile almost made it to her lips, though her bottom lip was split open and it was painful to express the emotion she felt seeing Charity reunited with her family. Her nose tingled slightly and her eyes pricked, at least that had not been a lie. They were okay. She saw Karrin, worn and tired, and walked past her, touching her shoulder gently before moving on. Hopefully none of them saw the battle, so they would not ask what had happened. Not even Jennifer truly knew.

It was a different sort of chaos now, the kind that was filled with smiles and childish laughter and embraces that didn't seem to end. Many of those who had taken refuge in the church smiled warmly at the reunion, but how could they know how sweet it was for a mother who hadn't seen her children in half a year? It was loud, but pleasantly so. The rest in the church pretended not to see the gore-covered Swords or the bloodstains that seeped into their clothing - for a moment, everything in the world was perfect ( ... )

Karrin would give anything for a towel right about now. She hated being covered in all this gore, but it was pretty unavoidable. She looked up as Jennifer passed her, returning the nod and mustering a slight smile, barely perceptible unless you were looking for it. That smile was about all she could muster.

Letting out a sigh, Karrin found her eyes drawn to a certain familiar looking angel and Sanya. She skirted around the crowd, making a beeline for them since it appeared he was waving them over anyway. She stopped when she got close enough, "Fancy seeing you again, here of all places."

Galahad did his best to clean Excalibur outside of the church. Which meant that his coat-of-arms was dirty, but that could be dealt with at another time. Once they lived through this.

Inside the church, though, he took a moment to kneel, crossing himself to take a moment to give thanks for the Lady Charity's life. A prayer that took more meaning as he heard her reunited with her family. He straightened, staying back so as not to disturb the reunion.

Karrin's movement caught his attention first, then he followed her to where the large, dark-skinned man stood with a tall blonde man. One that felt familiar, though Galahad couldn't place a name to him. Familiar enough that he brushed at his coat-of arms, feeling more self-conscious of the state of it in the church than he had been before.

The angel smiled benevolently at Karrin. "I go where I'm needed."

He only inclined his head as the others joined them, but did not take the moment to introduce himself. Instead, he gestured at the three Swords. "What you have done here is nothing short of miraculous, but I'm afraid to say that it doesn't end here." His smile became a bit melancholy. "Though, I suppose, you may have already known that."

It didn't became clear until after he had finished speaking that the worst of Clare's wounds had simply vanished. Sure, there were a handful of cuts and bruises left, but nothing that wouldn't easily be repaired in a few days.

Sanya frowned, looking up at the ceiling. "The witch, you mean."

Rafael nodded. "She's the last."

Dean stumbled in, several minutes later, slowly passing the other people huddled there. He was able to avoid some, but not all blows. He was bruised and cut in several places. Most were shallow, though one of his left arm and side were deeper, and weeping blood in long lines down his hip and leg. His gun was holstered, and one hand held the angel blade. His free hand was jammed into his side to apply pressure to the wound. The name of the place made him flinch inwardly. The juxtaposition with his mother's name with that hateful word made him want puke more than the blood loss did. Sure it was part of the religion, but he also found it a reminder of her words ( ... )

"Jes--," Karrin glanced at the angel, "jeeze, Clare, those look awful." She hadn't had time to pay attention to the injuries, she just knew that no one was dead. However, a split second later the wounds that had made Karrin wince were gone. She blinked, and then remembered she was in the presence of an angel. Right, that explained THAT then. Why was she even surprised any more.

"Of course it doesn't end here," Karrin muttered, her respect for the angel could only go so far in her tired state. At least she wasn't as bad as Dean who had just come up and started insulting the guy. She sighed, her patience was really running thin now thanks to little sleep and a fight to the death, "Dean, is now really the best time?"

Jennifer frowned as Dean started in on the angellic figures. He might not have liked them in his world, but here they were at least protecting the innocent people in the church. She came forward, acutely aware that she was without pants or a coat, but pressed her hand against his side for him, able to get more pressure against his side.

Her own wounds were painful, but they were healing better than they had been before. She felt most of them fading to bruises as she looked for something to sop up some of Dean's blood.

"Nicodemus...got away." She said quietly. "I couldn't do it."

She decided not to mention the voice. There was no reason to let them know he had probably gotten away because of some kind of trick he played on her.

Galahad paused a moment, then stripped off his coat of arms. It wasn't really necessary other than to identify him on the field of battle, but he thought it wouldn't be a problem.

"Such words are unnecessary," Galahad replied, offering the cloth to Jennifer. "It is not the fight of the angels that we fight here. This is a battle that began with mortals. It is mortals that must be responsible for its end."

"Don't let one of my brothers hear you say that," Rafael replied to Dean's gruff accusation with a good-humored laugh. He nodded in Galahad's direction. "The knight is correct though - as far as mortal affairs go, we cannot directly interfere. However, considering the nature of the coins, we can provide secondary assistance in the form of the Swords ( ... )

Dean scowled and ignored Karrin's comment. He had very good reasons to be distrustful. He didn't just not like most angels, he hated them for manipulating his world and most especially his family. The angels were the reason his parents were dead, and why they had to stop the end of their world. He turned briefly angry eyes to Clare's hitting him.

"Never been any kind of cavalry to us," he'd gruffly declared.

Still he snorted with disbelief at Rafael's comment. The only angel he knew he could trust was Castiel. And even this supposed good version disappeared abruptly the same way.

Afterwards, he did allow Jennifer's helpful ministrations to his wounds with a murmured thanks.
