Kyoko knew from a run-in with the resident White Court she wasn't... something his kind could sense. She figured it was because her soul was neatly stored in a bit of jewelry, and her body was an empty dead husk animated like a remote control car, as opposed to one with a proper driver. Plus it sounded like they could use someone who could do a bit of violence and she could use the exercise.

She was in full form again, powers restored, back to being dead, hunger gone but never full. She bounded down the street toward the address given her a stick of pocky delicately gripped by her teeth and lips. Enjoying the freedom she had, being able to run, and jump, and kick cars across streets. Well, maybe dent them seriously but the point was she was herself again. She couldn't feel better if she tried! She even didn't mind the others on this trip with her.

Although this hardly seemed the place for Fashion Police Pony. She shouldn't be getting involved in stuff like this. But even that couldn't bring Kyoko down right now, this minute, free from humanity again.

Sam didn't have powers. Well, not anymore. So the fact that they were in Chicago and the power fluctuations had stopped didn't bother him.

But when someone suggested that they should go speak to Lara Raith, he volunteered. The Raiths had trouble getting to him, so he was a good choice to go meet her. At least he could be certain of keeping control of his dick.

"I guess we should go see if anybody's home."

Missile had been all too ready to join in on this. He had gathered that the people they were going to visit weren't very nice, but... but there were people in trouble, and he had agreed to get their help, and how could they even say no? Apparently there was reasons to be scared of these guys, but from what little the dog understood of explanations he really didn't have much to be worried about at all.

Having hitched a ride on the core of the pink girl's box of snacks, Missile gave an eager yap. "Hold on, let me check!" In a matter of seconds, the spirit had hopped its way through the gardens and door of the hotel, gotten a quick look, and made his return before he could be missed. "Oh yeah, there's totally people there! I think they might be expecting us, too."

The grounds around Chateau Raith were as well manicured and eerily silent as ever, though as the group approached, a pair of wrought iron gates swung open, silent on well-oiled hinges, offering a passage through sculpted wood on a meandering, cobblestone drive.

Fleur regarded the other members of her team with a casual indifference. It wasn't that she didn't think they'd be up to this... Far from it, really. She was almost positive that the group assembled would be the best to attempt this. It would be difficult for the White Court to charm any of them.

No, the indifference was merely a facade, because she was scared witless of failing... Or being trapped. Or any number of things that could happen on a territory unfamiliar to them. She didn't want them to see how scared she was of all the possibilites.

She finally broke the mask and spoke up... "A little too convenient, no? Eef zey are expecting us... Eet may be a trap..."

Her grip tightened around her wand, yearning for the mere comfort of it just being there.

"Of course they're expecting us." They were a group of two older humans and a younger one, a dog that wasn't quite a dog, and a unicorn. Even if this city had been accustomed to unicorns - which, given the reactions of the populace to her, Rarity was certain they weren't - they were still a rather odd-looking group. It would be rather difficult to have not seen them coming. "You don't open the gates if you're not expecting company, after all."

Kyoko... kinda liked the mutt, easy to care for (dead), easy to travel with (fits with her snacks, cause he's dead), and most of all he was about as alive as she was, cause he's dead. Best pet idea ever, there should be one for every Puella Magi, and he's not a sadistic fuck like Kyubey is.

Kyoko left a long lingering stare on the gates, then another long lingering stare on Rarity for her commentary. She really didn't belong here, at all, it was clear. If she was at full power, the power she was at home, she wouldn't hesitate. Nothing alive could fuck with her and live. But she wasn't at home, and even though her powers were consistent and she was dead... she had to pause. This lasted about five seconds and Kyoko started in.

"If its a trap we kill her, if it isn't a trap we talk to her, not a big deal," Kyoko stuck a new stick of pocky in her mouth and took point, casual fire to her words with the indifference of a natural disaster. Casual human form showing more leg than a girl her age ever should, carrying herself like a playful child she wasn't anymore. She cocked her head back, grinning with the stick held between her white teeth, "Anyone who isn't afraid to die can come up front with me." She's dead, and committed suicide... twice, she saw no reason to hesitate given how many times she's been ready to die since she died.

The gravel walk eventually meanders its way up to a large chateau, complete with false turrets. In front of it, two men stood in black suits, their hands clasped in front of them. They regarded the unusual group with expressionless looks, but neither men moved for the holsters at their hip.

The one on the left was bald, with the neck and shoulders of an ex-football player, while the one on the right was all wiry muscle and sinew, and wore his hair in a salt-and-pepper buzz cut. The bald one spoke. "The petting zoo was booked by the estate three miles down the street."

Rarity returned that stare with grace and aplomb, which was to say she stared right back, completely unruffled. While she was certain Kyoko didn't approve of her presence here, she was also quite certain of her ability to turn on the charm, and if they were attempting to gain allies, then charm was what would be needed and Rarity had it in spades.

Of course, all thoughts of charm were forgotten the moment one of the guards at the door uttered the words petting zoo. "Well that's all very nice for them," she started indignantly, remembering almost too late that they were here to be polite and not give guards thorough lessons in manners, "but we are not interested in or part of any petting zoo, and to be frank I am deeply offended by your assumption that we are! I am more than just a pony - I am a lady in the company of several other ladies and gentlemen, and we are all guests at this estate, and I would expect that we be treated as such. We're here to see the mistress of the house, if you'd be so kind as to tell her that we've arrived." Her tone made it very clear that she expected just that to be done and immediately; otherwise, there would be consequences. Of course, she had no idea what those consequences would be, but she imagined they would be fitting to such an insulting breach of manners.

Okay. Sam had to admit that he liked the unicorn. Still kind of thought it was weird (and unicorns didn't exist in his world at all), but hey. She had guts. What wasn't to like?

He schooled the reaction down, though, straightening up properly. These guys might be more used to Harry Dresden, but Sam wasn't a slouch in the height or muscle department and he wasn't about to back down, either. "We're here to see Ms. Raith," he told the men, "about the profligate amount of magic being thrown around Chicago and what that could mean for the general food situation in the city and other parts of the world." He looked between them. "Now. You can announce us to the lady of the house. Or we can take you out and go in anyway. It's really your choice."

Okay, so they were two adults, a kid, a ghost dog and a unicorn. That didn't mean for one moment that Sam didn't believe they could force their way in if necessary.

The bald bodyguard frowned, first at Rarity's tirade, then at Sam's Harry Dresden impersonation, while the one with the buzz cut spoke softly into a barely discernible headset clipped around his ear. "If the Lady wanted to see visitors, she'd have offered you an appointment," the bald one growled, taking a solid step forward. He might not have been as tall as Sam, but he had mass on his side.

Before the bodyguard could do anything more than take that menacing step forward though, the front door of the chateau opened, and a voice like honey and heroin drifted out. "Gentlemen, please stand down, and escort our guests to the garden?"

Kyoko grinned, not a cute childish thing but a grin of hunger. As the other two talked to the guards. Not Kyoko's first choice for dealing with guards, and in the single menacing step forward Kyoko had closed the gap and was well within melee range with either bodyguard. Of course her fun was cut short by the door and the mistress of the house decreeing them safe passage.

The look she shot the bald bodyguard was one of utter disrespect, waiting for the trained dog to play guide. Hoping he'd decide his ego more important than his orders and make a move on her. She wanted to break his arm, she was very grateful to have such abilities back and wanted to test them out. Plus he was incredibly rude, he deserved such fare. "So then, the garden?" She teased, chomping down the end of her pocky stick to replace it with a new one.

Missile beamed. That wasn't so bad! The big guys were a little grumpy, but they were letting them in and that was fine. He was more interested in the person who had called out. His spirit jumped ahead of the guards into an elaborate plant pot, eager to get a look at whoever was up there.

"Hey! Is that who we're supposed to talk to? Can't she come out here? We're kind of in a rush, I mean, there's people in trouble and all, you know."

The bald bodyguard frowned deeply at Kyoko, as if growling at a pitch too low for humans to hear, but the woman's voice seemed to keep him in line despite the girl's provocation. He moved to march escort them to the garden, but Buzz-cut raised a hand and stopped him.

"I'll take them."

The bodyguard with the buzzcut gestured curtly at them to precede him down a stone-lined path that ran along the left side of the house and towards a high wall of hedges.

Sam thought about making a comment, but...well, antagonizing the help wasn't the reason they were there. There was too much at stake to let wanting another jibe at the guy get to him.

Sam nodded to the bald guy, then looked at the pathway before nodding to the others and waving them forward. "Ladies first." And once they went, he'd follow them.

Rarity had been quite prepared to make some sort of pointedly polite comment, likely about the possibility that an appointment existed without said bodyguard's knowledge, but was denied the chance when the woman's voice spoke. "Ah, finally, the lady of the house comes to greet her guests." She tossed her mane and spared a glance towards the bald, exceedingly rude human. "When we're finished here, perhaps she'll be kind enough to give you a lesson in manners. They are, after, essential if you plan on politely greeting your guests." From anyone else, it would have been a parting shot; from Rarity, it was simply the fact of the matter. Manners were important, after all.

Rarity graced Sam with a winning smile - "Why, thank you." - before shooting a knowing look at the bald bodyguard, as if to say now here is a gentleman; perhaps you should learn from him. That accomplished, she turned and trotted down the path towards the garden.
