alive, while everyone else was gone. Kyoko's life (and death) was filled with this thought, in the darkest corners of her mind. The thought that would prevent her sleeping if she slept. Her father killed her family to leave her alone. She roved the countryside fighting, and when she made friends they didn't last long.
The one to last the longest was Mami, she was a lovely friend, strong in a fight. Calm, collected, caring. Like a mother to everyone she met, so much like one that she ended up with two humans following her into the realms of witches, playing nursemaid to girls who had no business being in such places. Maybe that was why she died, Kyoko was sure without such a distraction it would have taken more for Mami to be killed.
Kyoko and Mami had parted ways before this, she was sure she'd see her friend again when the went different ways. But she survived her fights, and the Puella Magi with the infinite flintlocks did not.
Then one of those two girls became a Puella Magi, and at first they were a pain, but Sayaka had some sort of fire to her... a hero of justice, she saw the world with all the idealism of a pampered little lapdog to her loving living family. Weak and immature to how the world really worked. Kyoko frowned, she lashed out at her Sayaka a lot... but eventually tried to be her friend. And when Kyoko had told herself she had made a new friend, a new comrade in the fight against Witches... Sayaka fell.
Kyoko wasn't sure why she couldn't give up on Sayaka, she should have left, moved on. No, she had to try and save the girl Mami protected, the blue haird swordswoman. Try to return Octavia from the despair of her own design, over a boy no less. Everyone Kyoko drew close to turned to nothing, and when she tried to give her own life to at least keep Sayaka from being alone... she ended up here.
"I'm not going to let you!" Kyoko screamed to the empty sky, "I'm a Puella Magi, I am what monsters fear, the largest predator! I don't- I don't..." her outcry broke down into tears, lonelyness eating into her as she stared through the tears at the sinkhole in the city. "I'm not afraid, I won't just wait for whatever end you have in store for me. I live by my own rules, I decide my own fate!"
The ominous break in the fabric of reality menaced Kyoko as she wiped the tears away, she did it before. It was more dramatic before, grander, bigger. Tossing her soul in the path of her own strike, taking herself out with the attack aimed for Octavi- no, Sayaka. The strike to free her would-be friend of her torments and darkness. This would be a lot simpler. No flashy gestures, no powers cast off, just one short leap.
"Maybe this time... I'll get to see Mami and Sayaka again," Kyoko said to herself, tears drying into streaks along her face. Blotches the color of her hair. She took a stick of pocky from her pocket and examined the chocolate coating a moment before sticking it into her mouth like a cigarette, pushing her despair away, taking her courage and molding it into an act. She lived her own way, after she stopped being alive. Just one jump.
Unless fate has other plans for her again, this is it right. She started to feel the heat and knew that this was the moment to pick, her way or their way.
She was always a bigger fan of her way.
