It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester!

Mar 30, 2012 16:15

After Uriel vanished Sam just sat down, contemplating exactly what the dick of an angel meant. Dean said he didn't remember anything from Hell. Why would Dean lie to him? Same reason you've been lying to him, Sammy... Don't want him to find out about all the bad shit you've been doing.

The young hunter sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He ( Read more... )

Dean had sat there in the park for a little while after Cas disappeared before he finally dragged his ass back to the motel room. He didn't know what to think, about any of this. A few months ago, granted it felt like a few decades ago, he was sure angels didn't exist. And now he had an angelic stalker? One who could spy on him at any point, and weirdly enough let Dean spy to an extent right back. And now they were going out on missions and awaiting his orders? What the hell was he being groomed for exactly.

He wandered back into the motel room and didn't even bother to look at Sam before walking over to his bed and laying down. He was tired, he was always tired these days. He knew he should be lecturing Sam about what happened....as if it would do any good. He'd do it later.

Sam froze the moment Dean entered the room, his hands stilling from tossing clothes into another bag. He was expecting something, either a glare, a punch, maybe tossing another lamp but... Sam wasn't prepared for the silent treatment. He watched Dean collapse on the bed and let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding.

He wasn't sure how to start up a conversation or if he even should. Should he just leave Dean to his thoughts, ask him about Hell or just lay down on his own bed and take a nap like he was dying to do. Too confused about what to do, Sam just continued packing, his back to Dean.

Dean remained silent for several minutes, just laying on his back with his eyes shut. Finally he opened them, but made no other movement. His body ached from lack of sleep and getting the shit kicked out of him. Also somewhere Cas was fighting. He didn't know where but he felt a mixture of fear and adrenaline run through him. Yeah...this was getting fucked up. He quickly slammed the bond shut as much as he could and propped himself up into a sitting position. "So...that was Castiel." Well what the hell else was he supposed to say?

Sam continued to pack as he listened to Dean's breathing begin to steady itself out. he let his mind wander as the silence in the room grew, his thoughts roaming over how difficult it was to exercise Samhain the night before. Maybe it was because the demon was stronger than what he was used to or maybe it was because he wasn't doing it as often but... it was too hard and it hurt more than usual. He pursed his lips and stuffed his laptop into his brown leather case.

He heard Dean move behind him but wasn't expecting his big brother to say anything. Sam looked over at Dean, eyes finding Dean's tired face. "Yeah...," he scoffed a laugh before going back to pack the power cord for his computer.

"He's..." Not what I expected? A murderous dick? A personal bubble invader? "...nice. His friend's a jerk though." He was still a little shaken from Uriel's ultimatum. Stop using his abilities or get turned into dust... Good times.

"Yeah, Uriel is a dick. And less a friend I think, more a co-worker. Cas is..." how the hell did he even describe the guy? He was nice, but weird. Sometimes terrifying, but tried his best. "Cas means well."

Sam nodded, securing the latch of his laptop's bag. "I'm sure he does," Sam said with all honesty. He had to believe what Dean had said earlier. 'Just cause there's a few bad apples doesn't mean the whole barrel's rotten.'

He pushed the bag away from him so he could turn and sit down on the edge of the bed. Sam leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, contemplating telling Dean about Uriel's little visit but decided against it. Sam wasn't in the getting lectured kinda mood.

He really didn't know why it mattered to him, but he wanted Sam to know that Cas wasn't a bad guy. He was going to keep his promise, not share that Cas had doubts as much as he wanted to tell. "He...he was never going to blow up the town you know. Apparently," he lowered his head a little, "apparently their orders on this mission were to follow my orders, that's why they didn't fight harder to off the town."

Sam kept his eyes on the ground, picking at his nails as his nervousness started creeping in. But he stopped as soon as Dean finished talking, looking up at his brother. Angels were following Dean's orders?

"What?" He had to have heard that wrong. Angels follow Heaven's orders... not Dean's. Why would they follow Dean's orders? Dean didn't even believe in them in the first place. Sam frowned in confusion. What made Dean so special...

"Yeah I know, crazy right? I guess it was a test...see how I'd do under pressure in a combat setting or something like that." He let out a weak laugh, eyes never leaving the ground. "Well I think I failed. Point is, Cas is a good guy he's just trying to follow orders while trying to do what he thinks is right."

His frown lines deepened and he looked away from Dean. He was still hung up on the whole Angels were following Dean's orders thing. Sam's sure Cas... Cas? So he and Dean were on nickname terms now? Fan-fucking-tastic. Sam leaned back away from Dean, feeling some heavy weight in his chest.

He didn't know if it was jealousy or resentment but it was something big and Sam didn't know how to feel about it. "Yeah well... You saved a town full of innocent people so... guess you didn't fail too hard, right?"

Even though he was the one that sent the demon back to Hell... His abilities that saved the town. All Dean did was kill a few zombies... He went after a few thousand year old demon... But Dean gets all the praise. He just gets threatened with death...

He tried to sound supportive but he couldn't help but let his thoughts go back to that feeling in his chest, trying to figure out exactly what it was.

Now it was Dean's turn to frown. He shifted a little uncomfortably, wondering why Sam had this attitude in his tone. "We saved a town of people, and that's great but the seal was still broken so it was still a failure in their eyes. Hopefully this was enough to show heaven that they got the wrong guy, I'm not gonna be any help."

He could probably feel how tense Sam was, ok this wasn't what he wanted. "Look sorry I brought it up, I just wanted to make sure you know that angels may be dicks, but we can trust him."

"Can we?" Sam asked, looking back over to his brother. "How? I mean... He brought you out of Hell and I'm grateful for that, I really am but... Heaven's plan... was to nuke a town because of one witch. One witch."

He sighed, resisting the urge to flop back onto his bed. He leaned forward, scrubbing his hands over his face. "Why do you trust them? I mean... they're arrogant dicks. You hate people like that."

"I didn't say we could trust them, I said we could trust him. There's a difference, and how about you just believe it because I say it?" He knew that wasn't gonna fly, that Sam would have a thousand questions, and rightfully so but fuck it, it was worth a shot.

Sam's eyebrow quirked upwards before he could stop it. "Because you say so?" The big brother trying to pull the 'cause I'm older' card. "Dean... That excuse didn't fly when I was 8, why do you think it's gonna fly now?"

Dean sighed heavily, he really didn't wanna go into this, but it looked like he didn't have a choice. "Ok look, I'm gonna tell you something because you're my brother...and honestly this whole thing freaks me out a little. But you can't treat me like a weirdo and you can't laugh, understand?"

Sam shifted in his seat, more than a little confused and somewhat intriegued. "I... I'm not gonna laugh." At least he thought he wasn't gonna laugh. If it was something like 'I dress up in woman's clothing and the angel is my pimp' then yeah, Sam would start laughing. But he really doubted that's what would come out of Dean's mouth.
