[OOC] Backstory!
Background:
Before MOMO was ever born, Joachim and Juli Mizrahi were a very happy couple of scientists working on the cutting edge of technology, at the Mizrahi Acute Neurosis Treatment Facility-a facility that used very experimental medication and technology to treat patients who were otherwise untreatable. As things happened, they fell in love, got married, and in time had a baby girl who they adored and whom they named Sakura.
Only Sakura was very very sickly and not even all their work could save her life and alleviate her illness. As she got sicker and sicker, Joachim Mizrahi flung himself deeper into his work and, in an attempt to make someone who Sakura could communicate effectively with, began working on the creation of MOMO without obtaining Juli's consent. When Juli found out about this, after Sakura had passed on, she divorced her husband before MOMO was ever born.
MOMO is a test tube baby. Her first name is all-caps because it's not a proper name at all, it's an acronym for: Multiple Observative Mimetic Organicus. Born of both her parents' genes, she resembles her big sister Sakura in everything but colouring and does not have the same illness that killed Sakura. As her mother wanted nothing to do with her, and her father was embroiled heavily by the time of her birth, in terrorist activity, MOMO was raised primarily by lab assistants and never left the lab she'd been born in.
When Joachim Mizrahi died, MOMO was five, and all of a sudden custody of her was turned over to Juli Mizrahi who, unknown to herself or to MOMO, was registered with the government as MOMO's mother. Juli… took it badly, and rather than raise MOMO as a proper daughter, ordered her confined to the lab and only saw her enough to ensure that she was growing well and healthily.
This wasn't as big a change as it could have been, as her dad had always been more absent than not, and while she desperately wished her mother was around more often, every time she asked her to be, she got the response that her mother was too busy to stay around and that her work must not be disturbed.
She grew lonely. In the lab there was plenty to learn and the assistant's kept her busy with studies in advanced science and math and medicine, but she was never allowed outside and she had no one who really loved her around to give her the emotional support she needed.
As a result, not knowing that she was considered an 'asset' of the Mizrahi Acute Neurosis Treatment Facility, and that her mother, while distant and distinctly uncertain how to treat her as a daughter, MOMO eventually decided to do something rash in an attempt to both satisfy her curiosity about the outside world and to see if her mother cared enough to come after her.
For all of that though, she hadn't really meant to be gone long, and she definitely hadn't meant to cause any trouble, but when she snuck out of the lab and out into the streets surrounding the only home she'd ever known for the first time in her life, MOMO couldn't bring herself to go back inside right away. Instead, she went exploring.
And then she got lost while wandering the city and gaping at the sights. When night fell, MOMO was far from home with no idea how to get back there.
She was caught by the cops a week later after having been spotted stealing food from a convenience store, and running away when the cops went after her. They found her that night, breaking into an elementary school, so that she could have some place to sleep. After discovering that she was a runaway and notifying her mother, they arranged for her to be held in a holding cell closer to the Mizrahi Acute Neurosis Treatment Facility, but was mistakenly sent to Deadman Wonderland instead.
