I must admit, I adore the idea of Babbage, the sprawling steampunk metropolis. I just can't bear going there at this point, the build is so painfully 1.0
Any chance that it'll ever be upgraded to showcase buildings without alpha issues, take advantage of sculpts, etc? The idea, as I said, is brilliant. The execution is just painfully behind the times. And not at all in a good way.

The ten sims that make up New Babbage are built up by parcel by parcel by individual residents, each with their own varied experience of building. I have to admit some surprise at your reaction though - and I wonder what buildings you are visiting! There's some rather fantastic builds in the city. And sculpts are rather heavily used. :) Try visiting Brunel Hall in Academy of Industry, or checking out Doctor Obolensky's evil lair on a small island in the Vernian Sea. I do wish Tiny Tin was still around to show off!

Mesh is coming, and MANY of our builders are experimenting with it and honing their skills. I'd expect that will change many of the city's builds, too.

I don't get to New Babbage all that often, but I love walking along the Palisade wall (which is all sculpt details). The engineer who built it is all sorts of brilliant, and the wall itself looks like it could hold off the Romans and Huns combined.

I kinda wish the defensive positions would fire, though... that'd be fun.

*raises an eyebrow*

Considering the two RFL builds created by New Babbage citizens both won awards, I'd say the builders there know what they're doing.

It will be great fun! And I will admit of course I can't wait to see what's submitted for the writing contest, of course!

Is Blackberry really going to make krakenchinos at the CocoaJava? I heard a rumor.

As a builder in New Babbage, I'm a bit offended by your comment. I take pride in making my builds up to date, beautiful, and unique. After visiting countless other sims, and lots of steampunk sims, nothing else can measure up to the level of commitment builders in New Babbage have to creating quality builds. We have some of the best builders in SL and while some builds in New Babbage may irk us, we encourage people to enhance their skills through practice, constructive criticism, and tips ( ... )

And builds do not a community make. The community here is varied, rich and vibrant - just like the builds are. I am new there, and am very glad I have found it.

"foggy" windlight settings do wonders for solving the alpha issue if your viewer is particularly cranky about it, some viewers are worse than others. there is only one build in the city i notice it on.
