You can use WinAmp, which is free, but you also need to download the shoutcast add-on for WinAmp in order to plug in your stream information to play inworld.
When you rent a stream, you get the IP address, a port number, and a password. Generally, you put the IP, port, and password into the encoder window, and you're good to go.
Sorry, I haven't used WinAmp in a few years. If you find a copy of SAM (not free, unless some enterprising soul gives you a crack for it) I could talk you through setting it up. If memory serves, WinAmp is fairly easy to set up.
Once you have it all set up, just place the URL (also provided with stream rentals) into the media of About Land, and the music should play.
I use Internet-Radio.org.uk, myself. One of the nice things about them is that they're a pay-as-you-go system, rather than a monthly subscription, so you just top up your account as-needed. They start at £5 (currently about US$8.19) for 10GB of bandwidth -- which, IMO, is more than sufficient for a casual part-time DJ in Second Life, seeing as how that's enough to stream for just over 18 hours to 20 listeners @ 128Kbps.
If you find yourself doing a lot of gigs per month, they do have discounts if you buy bandwidth in larger chunks, up to £40 (US$65.51) for 120GB. Obviously, this wouldn't be economical for someone who wants to set up a 24/7 radio station that could handle a hundred listeners at a time, but for someone who DJs once or twice a week for a couple of hours at a time, it's a lot cheaper than a monthly subscription to a server you'll never use a tenth of. :)

Where exactly can you rent a stream from? What are the normal prices?
