Alright folks, so I was on

Subject: Harry/Ginny or Harry/Draco?
Users: vinacross and Nasulril
Rating: PG
Warnings: HBP Spoilers
Summary: Just in case anyone finds debating this subject as engrossing as I do.
vinacross: I can't really picture Harry with a girl because he seems to awkward with them. To be honest, I dislike how JK made his relationship with Ginny seem to easy once it got started--them kissing, hugging, etc.--since Harry displays a marked unease about being physically close to girls before that point. It can be said that it's easier with Ginny because they're friends, but personally, I didn't see them as particularly close. Oh well.
I probably only feel this way because I'm such a Harry/Draco shipper, but I think that Ginny doesn't have enough personality to keep Harry interested. She doesn't inspire any form of really strond emotion in him. Granted--she makes him happy-- but I can't picture him confiding anything in her.
Nasulril: Well, if you're a fangirl who's into fanfics that turn the hero and his rival enemy into fag lovers, then that would explain why you don't like it...and I think you need a good smack upside the head.
Harry was uneasy around Cho, but there are a lot of differences between Ginny and Cho. And Ginny certainly has plenty of personality to keep Harry interested. They're both into Quidditch, and Ginny has proven she's a good Seeker. Ginny also was one of the stalwart members of the D.A., and was there at the Ministry to help Harry. She's got plenty of guts and determination, something that I think Harry likes to see. And you think there's nothing to keep him interested?
vinacross: Aww, you attacked my ship. How mature. And I'm certain that since you voiced your disagreement with me in such a vulgar, insulting way, I'm definitely going to change my mind and ultimately agree with you.
[/sarcasm]
Cho is into Quidditch. She was a "stalwart member" of the DA. While she was not in fact at the Ministry to help Harry, I have no doubt in my mind that she would've helped if she could. As for Ginny having "plenty of guts and determination", I've seen no evidence of that at all, kiddo. That's your personal opinion. As for me, I dislike Cho even more than I dislike Ginny.
There's not much evidence of a strong emotional connection between Harry and Ginny. They play Quidditch together and laugh at jokes. Oh my fucking God. Big deal. There are a bajillion and one people that I play games and laugh at jokes with--many of them close male friends who have backed me up in fights (granted, they weren't against Death Eaters, which I'm sure, with your logic, you'll point out). As far as I can see, that's all there is to the Ginny/Harry connection. Friendship--and not a very close one, at that.
What it seems to be is that in the Sixth book, JK finally decided to let Harry have a love interest that wasn't a sappy, soppy, crybaby, and instead she tried to substitute a quick romance to let him have a bit of sunshine. Before the sixth book, Harry shows no interest in Ginny whatsoever. She has her little omg-I-have-to-tremble-when-I-see-him crush in the beginning, but that blows over when she gets a little older. For most of the series, there is absolutely nothing to suggest a HP/GW ship except her little crush.
Also, as to my not thinking that Ginny is interesting-- is she? Is she really? She likes Quidditch. What a thing to base a relationship on. She fought at his side--well, she was at the Ministry at the time, what was she supposed to do when her friends got attacked? I don't see Ginny as a gutsy, determined sort of gal--although, she is a Gryffindor, so it has to be there somewhere, besides her whole I'll-date-who-I-want-to-date,Ron,-so-keep-your-nose-out-of-it attitude. I found Ginny interesting for a few brief moments when she was being manipulated by Riddle in the second book, but beyond that, she has always seemed like a very sub-sub-character for me. She's that extra person that the Golden Trio has for when they want to play games with teams, or who tags along while they're at the Burrow.
I attribute the entire Harry/Ginny ship to Harry being a sixteen year old boy and finally having the time to get used to his hormones. Ginny is pretty. Ginny is a girl. Ginny smells nice. That's basically all Harry focuses on in regards to her.
While I do admit that Harry/Draco most likely will not happen in canon (although there are those that would disagree, given certain aspects of the 6th book), I can't help but notice that Draco happens to be the only character in the entire series that inspires that much energy in Harry without inspiring complete and total hatred. While I don't think the same can quite be said for Draco, it's a pretty idea to toy with.
Since I can't picture Harry in a truly loving relationship with a female, and he obviously isn't ]allowed to be paired with a male because it's a series of childrens' books and some people feel that m/m relationships are disgusting-- -=eyeroll=- -- I feel that Harry should be by himself, as he can't risk putting others in danger or creating a weakness for others to exploit.
And guess what, kiddo? I guess I get my wish, because at the end of book 6, he's not dating Ginny anymore, is he? Nope. :D
