Like other people around here, I like going to the Declaration reading on July 4. If you think this is the sort of thing you would like, you should come too.

The reading is at the old State House (near the State stop on the Orange Line, not the big thing on the hill) at 10 AM. Showing up earlier, at least around 9:45 if not 9:30, is wise because there's always a crowd. They have a few people speak briefly, then they read the Declaration of Independence, and then some groups of local Revolutionary War re-enactors and the Middlesex Fife and Drum Corps parade by.

For some reason, everyone is quietly polite and nobody boos King George's abuses or cheers anything. Maybe it is just not done.

Also, if you want to hear the Pops concert but not deal with the Esplanade crowds, they have a rehearsal at the Hatch Shell at 8:30pm on July 3.
