Bangalore, day 2

Jul 26, 2010 22:38

Sorry, no pictures from day 2. Got up too early, left for work - and managed to arrive safely, which would be more impressive if I had to drive myself - the roads are at least as crowded as I'm used to, but I'm used to vehicles all having a basic minimum level of power, which is not as omnipresent here. This leads to a morass of lane-changing (assuming one was ever in a particular lane) as you swing in and out of the autorickshaws, scooters, motor bikes, trucks, and so on.

I saw three life birds today:
Common Myna (on the hotel grounds)
Purple Sunbird (kind of like a large hummingbird with a curved bill)
House Crow (standing on a cow on the side of a busy city street)
Also, saw some of the previous day's birds, and added Little Egret to the trip list.

Got to work at 9, and it was very quiet - apparently, the office is really quiet until around 11, as they come in later and stay later to overlap with the US folks.

It was great to meet the team in person - and a couple of others who I've spoken with or e-mailed, but never met in person. Fortunately, introductions were kept to a dull roar, since (unsurprisingly), I didn't sleep as long as would have been ideal last night.

The co-workers were surprised that I didn't find lunch at their cafeteria too spicy - apparently one of my US buddies had pretty much cried like a baby when he was out to visit.

We got a lot done today, especially considering my energy level and the typical set up things (such as badge access - hopefully cleared up by tomorrow, and spending almost an hour trying to get my laptop on the network - apparently, the desktop guys had to register my MAC address - who knew?)

I got back to the hotel pretty late, and after a nice dinner in one of the hotel restaurants, am due for bed.
