Tonight is my last overnight shift. I have been doing this since September 1999 - a long time to be on such an odd schedule. Of course, I have been reading lj, listening to baseball on MLBtv and
high_and_inside podcasts, reading
the Heroes webcomics, and so on, but while I will miss that aspect of this job, I am very much looking forward to the new opportunity and the changes that are coming for me.
My mouth has made some progress. The right side (which had only one tooth removed) is really doing pretty well. It feels that normal use is in sight. The right side is still painful - in fact, more painful than the first couple of days.
I tried to drop the dose of the ibuprofen from 800mg to 600, but my mouth told me that was a mistake, so I am back to the 800. I will be very glad to finish the prednisolone. The last pill is in the morning, thank Dog. The stuff affects appetite, thirst, and peeing, apparently. I can't vouch for the first too, but the last is definitely true, and while I had to pee all the time (like some of you, I guess), it was fairly uncomfortable as well. A couple of times I was not able to get back to sleep after a mid-sleep wake-up-call.
The swelling on the right side is pretty much done. The left side still has some significant swelling on the bottom, and I am interested to hear what they say at my follow up Thursday afternoon.
I have had cravings for "real food" (something more than relatively non-chunky soups and ice cream). I braved it out for a chopped steak Monday night, which was very satisfying, although a bit difficult to handle still. Tonight, I went back to soup. I am not sure if this is a dietary hunger, a hunger based on the pred., or a psychological hunger based on the idea that eating "real food" will mean I am back to normal.
Hey, did you see
