Starting off with a Short and technical review of Planet 51.

Planet 51 Review
I remember when this came out and it got very little notice. Watching it now I can almost feel why.
The talent behind this visual design did an excellent and detailed job. The character movements, inflections, syncing were all very well done. The environment design mixed with an obvious set of 50's style and oval shapes was lovingly done.
Another surprise are the number of celebrity voices from Dwayne Johnson to Gary Oldman.
Soundtrack is filled with some great 50's covers and some original orchestrated parts for the dramatic moments.
For all the praise I did find that it was way too long. The main story is very weak and the liberal use of stereotypes for every character left it with no room for character development. Instead you have a movie loaded with one troupe after another and that is not bad looking at it from a child's movie stand point. You don't need the story with all the visual cute, silly, crazy, wow and giggle cues that come up about every 5 minutes.
For me I would love to see this edited down to a 45 minute movie and I would consider it a solid buy. As is, its too long and I found myself wanting to skip to the next troupe.
For the artistic types out there it does show some good character design and the best environmental object design in a long time.

On to me, The weather started to get a little cooler but then it warmed up again. So the afternoons are kind of uncomfortable.
But I think I am through the general stumbling that I have been going through since April. Things should be stabilizing enough for me to take care of some maintenance. Lets hope so.

My kitty got hurt. There is this glass wall in the mud room that has separated at the base from the framing. I had filled it in with some expanding foam to keep her from reaching outside and to help control the heat in that room. But she scratched away the foam and started reaching under that glass and cut up her pads. I figured it out two weeks ago when she was licking her paws a lot. They have scabbed over and they did look pretty swollen and red. Well, I sealed off the mudroom for the last two weeks and need to set up a new seal on that glass before I can let her back in there. Her paws are doing better and they are turning a bit more pink and the swelling going down.

Managed to work some time during my lunches to work on commissions. I have most of them sketched out right now I am hoping to have them inked by the end of the week.
