Its been an absolutely amazing year for music. I cannot remember any previous that have had this many fantastic releases.

My vote for top album of the year? It's all Americana, and it's a 3-way tie because I can't decide.

Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
M. Ward - Post-War
Tom Waits - Ophans: Brawlers, Bawlers, and Bastards

M. Ward's was not quite as solid as the other two and would have come in a close second if it weren't for this song, which is charming, simplistic, and very well written. (cool video too):

That's it! I've decided. The Americana releases this year have been incredible... I should also mention Califone's "Roots and Crowns" and Calexico's "Garden Ruin" which were up there as well.

Bonnie Prince Billy's "The Letting Go" doesn't suck either.

And those are just the one's I've heard... Jason Molina released one I haven't yet.

So yes. go indie-americana artists. you kicked huge amounts of ass this year.
