How things went and are going!

Jun 29, 2005 23:49

So then here's a recap of the things i was setting out to do as of two entries ago, and the stuff that went on with them.

TUESDAY, JUNE 22nd

Brian Wilson's "Gettin' In Over My Head" is released. I purposely spend the night up in sherman oaks (actually, encino) on monday night so that i can be first in line when the store opens. And i am. And the cd ROCKS! His song with Paul McCartney 'A Friend Like You' is GREAT, his song with Elton John 'How Can We Still Be Dancing?' KICKS ASS, his song with a post-humous voice of Carl Wilson 'Soul Searchin'' ROCKS! I think there are only really two or 3 songs on there that are so-so to eh...and out of 13 tracks, that's really good!! I get a wristband so that i'm alowed back on Saturday morning for a signing.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 23rd

Ms. Kari Floberg had a nice little Bday BBQ in her backyard. It was swell! I also finally met Wendy Wang- a musician whose work i'd heard and enjoyed- we had a lot of the same music interests and i promised to give her a call sometime so we could jam!

THURSDAY, JUNE 24th

I record most of a song with Avi. it's called 'This Feeling I Have'...we didn't get it done, so we put 6 songs of mine instead that he'd already recorded onto a cd for me to have.

FRIDAY, JUNE 25th

I see Fahrenheit 9/11 (opening night!)with Shannon and Kirby at the Bridge - GO SEE IT!

I get to the hollywood bowl for the 2004 hall of fame (for the bowl) inductee show....i got SO much more than i bargained for! Apparently not only was this the hof show, but it was also the opening night for the summer/season! AND, to top THAT, it was THIS NIGHT that the new bowl made its complete and utter debut! As in, it was the opening night of season number 80 (80 years!!!), and since 1929 till just now, it'd been a particular structure. They tore it down completely and built a new one! And i was there for it's opening night! And not only that, but i saw so many more performers than i bargained for! Who was there and what they did:
Kathy Bates- introduces the evening
LA Philharmonic- always on stage, playing during interludes and stuff
Sarah Chang- inductee, she is the youngest performer ever inducted...started violin at 2, was already playing with NY Philharmonic at 8....she ROCKED!!!! seriously, her bowing was RADICAL- it was like she was cross-bred with a hummingbird! And she did stuff THAT FAST whilst plucking with her left hand too! Radical shit.
Andy Williams- He shows up in this VERY classy white suit (HOORAY!) and sings the seminal 'Moon River'- the original voice is his, and here's the now 80 years old class act singing it. Lovely. Why? Henry Mancini (now dead) was being inducted, and he wrote the music for it. Mancini was a composer/writer/arranger...he did the Pink Panther music, the music for Peter Gunn, and so so so much more. You think of classy movie music that's also swinging, and it's either HIS or heavily influenced by him.
Dakota Fanning- she introduces.....
Josh Groban- He sings two songs. He has a very nice voice. He is the Music Matters spokesperson (which the proceeds of the night were going towards)
Robin Gibb- Of the BeeGees...he sings 'How Deep Is Your Love?'...it rocked. Why? He's a performer who was influenced by The Beach Boys, and Brian Wilson was the last inductee to be inducted for the Night.
Wilson Phillips- yes, reunited, all three, they sing 'In My Room' in tribute to Brian Wilson ('this ones for you daddy!')
Rob Reiner- a humongous fan of Brian's, he introduces Brian with nothing but praise
Brian Wilson- He and the wondermints/backing band sing three songs- 'I Get Around', 'Soul Searchin'', and 'Good Vibrations'...
And the night ends with a kickass fireworks show.

All that for 35 bucks.

SATURDAY, JUNE 26th

After spending the night in Encino (next to Sherman Oaks, which you'll recall is where the Tower Records that i had visited the previous tuesday is located), i wake up with a voicemail from
one Debbie Martinez. She is the producer of a show 'Lil Abner' being performed up at the Norris Theatre come August. So then i was unable to show up to normal auditions b/c i was unaware of them in time to make schedule adjustments/unwilling to with some set plans. So i asked that if there were a way to get around that, give me a call. So then she says the director lives up in Sherman Oaks (YES!!!), go to his house at 12 or 2 (12), and blah blah blah. So i do, and i'm thinking of the last musical song i know (Too Many Tomorrows from Sweet Charity), and i meet him (michael sartor) and we hit it off smashingly! Things come to things, and i get cast as 'General Bullmoose'! Which i find out later is a substantive part! I'm excited! I'll tell more of it when i know more of it! Hooray for whimsical auditions with nothing prepared!

Then i head to wait in line over at Tower Records, b/c Brian is due to make an appearance and sign records and one other item. It's like a fun beach boys atmosphere/convention, b/c everyone's a huge fan and has cool stories and memorobilia and shit...and then he shows up, we're told only one item, not the record and one item...i choose my guitar. my white guitar. And remember on thursday, i tried to record a new song with avi- well it was intended for him, in the style of him, as a 'thank you' song- for him inspiring me to become a musician. Instead of that song though, i gave him a cd that had 'Home' 'Baby' 'Faretheewell' 'Thank You' 'Resolve to Change' and 'My Baby' (that last one is avi and i together). I told him he inspired me to become a musician in the first place as he signed my guitar, he said 'well thank you sir' and i said 'no no, thank YOU- i made this for you' and i gave him the cd. And he said thanks. and i was rushed out of line.

Next time ya see me with my guitar, check out where the pickguard should be.

SUNDAY, JUNE 27th
Work, and then party at Kirby's! I saw holly there, hadn't seen her in a few weeks.... all in all fun!

MONDAY, JUNE 28th
work, and then Dinner at Red Robin with Gaius Emily and Allan, and then 'Mean Girls' at the $3 theater with the same crew, and then party/kickback at gaius's! The 80's music is flowin, so my body gets goin'. Nuff said.

TODAY, JUNE 29th
I started Improv Olympic Today! It was cool! I can tell i'm going to have a LOT of fun in the class-- i also think that once again, that i may be the youngest....although i think the curve in this class (as opposed to UCB, which i was inferring with that 'again' remark) is going to be closer to my age than middle-age. I'm REQUIRED to see EIGHT SHOWS by August 31st. I get to go for free, but anyone else that wants to see anything when i'm going gets in for half off!

TOMORROW, JUNE 30th
Spider Man 2, opening night!

THURSDAY, JULY 1st
Simon & Garfunkel.

Love & Mercy,
-Seb
