Percy wasn't sore after his latest spar. He'd made his way down to the beach for what looked like a swim and had actually been another round of healing. It hadn't taken long and soon Percy was just swimming for his enjoyment ( Read more... )

Blame the new running water for Nico's appearance in the doorway. "Nice addition to the room." Nico really needed to go skull shopping.

"Yeah?" Percy asked, looking up from the stupid comic book and towards Nico. He glanced over at the fountain. "There was a bigger one in my cabin at Camp Half Blood. I thought I'd decorate since I haven't gotten booted yet."

Before it got all crushed and broken, of course.

"My--" Right, Nico remembered just in time not to talk about his cabin. "Mine would have more skulls, but it's not bad. Think they boot anyone here?"

"From what I've heard..." Percy shook his head. "Nope. Apparently it's nearly impossible to get kicked out. Still, we should probably avoid blowing up half the school."

"Maybe just tear up the ground around the lawn?" Nico suggested jokingly as he walked in to have a closer look at that fountain thing. "No scars this time."

"I think Mrs. O'Leary might be able to do some damage to the grounds," Percy agreed, tossing aside the comic book for now. "Think the school administration would blame an innocent poodle?"

The Mist came in handy sometimes.

"Hey, I wouldn't blame a happy hellhound," Nico replied. "A poodle...I might think those things are evil by the haircuts alone."

"You wouldn't blame the hellhound because you think she's adoraaaaable," Percy said, drawing it out purposely. "I know you do. Big softie."

"I can't help it if Mrs. O'Leary likes the smell of death," Nico teased, turning his head to hide the small smile because she was one creature who truly did like him.

"I wonder if Mrs. O'Leary would like McDonalds," Percy said thoughtfully, tucking an arm under his head. "If she likes you so much, she'd probably like what you like, right?"

"So you're what you mean is I should take her off-island and find out?" Nico checked, intrigued by the idea of shadow traveling with the hellhound.

"Why not?" Percy didn't see any trouble there. It wasn't like the mortals would see the nearly tank sized hell hound. "I bet you could get her a big bone while you're there."

The pet shop here wasn't really stocked for a hellhound.

"She'd love that," Nico nodded. "A nice femur maybe!"

"I don't even wanna know how you're gonna get a femur," Percy said. He wasn't going to doubt the son of Hades but still. "Cerebrus got a kick out of a red ball. I bet Mrs. O'Leary would like one too."

"I didn't say the femur of a human," Nico pointed out. "Bet she'd dig a ball with a squeaker. Might drive some people nutty, though."

"Femur of anything is still weird," Percy protested, shrugging. "I'd never be able to find one but I don't do the things you do."

See, he didn't doubt Nico. He just didn't do death and darkness as well as Nico did.

"And short of a playmate, she probably needs toys since you and I can't be down there all the time. I think she still misses Quintus."
