Summertime Fun

The transition into summer break this past week has gone a lot smoother than past years. My kids really like school and when it comes to end for summer, emotions tend to run high. This year I distracted them by assigning them a different area in their rooms to deep clean each day. We were able to get purge lots of toys that they no longer played with and discuss what hobbies/projects we might want to tackle this summer using the newly acquired space.

After taking four trips out of town last month, I'm very releaved that we will be staying home this summer and we have no big trips planned. This past spring, several shingles started coming off our roof, so we have to replace the entire thing, a year earlier than expected. Unfortunately we are still paying off the new deck and exterior paint job from last summer, so finances are a little tight.

But that's okay. We'll still have fun. I signed the kids up for the (free) summer reading program at our local public library, today. We plan to finally do some camping and use all those camping supplies sitting in the garage that only get used for scouting events. We're also taking about doing a staycation in August and do some tourist things close to home.

How about you? What fun, inexpensive things are you planning to do this summer?
