If you're going to file for unemployment, do it immediately!
Do not stall.
As soon as you start the process, you MUST file a claim each week even if they haven't given you a final approval yet.
Doing this on the internet is best, because getting through to them on the phone is almost impossible, however, if you call them AND do what you can through the net, your chances of nailing approval and getting all of your money asap is more likely.
It took me two months to finally get mine, but they were really good about giving me back pay as well, so I was able to pay my rent for two months once it cleared.
But be vigilant! Because they are so busy, if you slack at all, they will take that as a sign that you're not very serious, and this could delay the approval process.
I made the mistake of waiting for word through the mail, because my original case worker said that I would get a letter in the mail about my approval. I didn't know I had to file weekly claims from day one, and this delayed my money for over a month!
